FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Jose Calderon suffered a broken nose in the second half of Game 6 on Friday against the Spurs. He will play in Game 7.

Calderon appeared to have taken an elbow or a forearm to the nose which prompted it to bleed immediately and drip all over the court. He sat on a the bench for a few until the bleeding stopped and he went right back in. He'll throw a little tape on the snout and he should be good to go for Game 7. ANALYST: Howard Bender

Hyun-jin Ryu (shoulder) has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

This doesn't affect Ryu's timeline at all. It simply opens up a new spot on the Dodgers' 40-man roster. He is eligible to be activated May 26. Analysis: Howard Bender

Travis Ishikawa will begin a rehab assignment with High-A San Jose on Monday.

Ishikawa had suffered a setback in his rehab about a week ago as his back flared up on him again but he appears to be ready to give it a try once again. He is still about two weeks away. Analysis: Howard Bender

Dodgers have acquired RHP Matt West from the Blue Jays for cash considerations.

This is a nice pick-up for the Dodgers as West has shown significant improvement this year in Triple-A. He's thrown 12 1/3 scoreless innings with a 12.41 K/9. How he does once promoted is another story but moving from the Rogers Centre to Chavez Ravine should certainly help. Analysis: Howard Bender

Casey Janssen is scheduled to begin rehab assignment Thursday. After that, he'll need to go back-to-back days before he's ready to come off the disabled list.

Janssen threw an inning at extended spring training Monday and will head out soon for the rehab assignment. He is still a little ways away from returning so continue to view him as a possible late-May return. Analysis: Howard Bender

Mets recalled C Johnny Monell from Triple-A Las Vegas.

With neither Anthony Recker nor Kevin Plawecki dealing with injuries, this seems like an odd recall. The Mets are likely to make a corresponding roster move shortly. Analysis: Howard Bender

Rangers recalled RHP Spencer Patton from Triple-A Round Rock.

Patton has a 0.96 ERA with a 13.50 K/9 over 9 1/3 innings for Triple-A Round Rock this season. He'll join the Rangers bullpen and take the place of an ineffective Roman Mendez. Analysis: Howard Bender

Rangers have optioned RHP Roman Mendez to Triple A Round Rock.

In two appearances over the weekend, Mendez allowed four earned runs over 1 2/3 innings. The Rangers will swap him out for a fresher arm out of the bullpen. Analysis: Howard Bender

Shin-Soo Choo is leading off for the Rangers on Monday.

Choo has hit safely in three straight with a double in each game. He'll work atop the order while he's hot with the hope of sparking the rest of the lineup.  Analysis: Howard Bender

Matt Adams is not in the Cardinals starting lineup on Monday.

With lefty Travis Wood on the hill for the Cubs, Adams will take his usual seat on the bench. Mark Reynolds will handle the work at first base Monday. Analysis: Howard Bender

Yadier Molina is not in the Cardinals starting lineup on Monday.

Just a routine day off for Molina who has caught the last six-straight games. Tony Cruz will get the start. Analysis: Howard Bender

Twins have recalled Eddie Rosario from Triple-A Rochester.

Rosario is batting just .242 with a dismal .280 OBP in the minors, but will still get the call to provide the Twins with some outfield depth. The length of his stay could be determined by the timetable for Osawldo Arcia's return. Analysis: Howard Bender

Twins have placed Oswaldo Arcia on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip flexor strain.

The timing couldn;t have been worse as Arcia was just starting to heat up. The Twins haven't set up a timetable for his return just yet but will re-evaluate him in a few days and make a determination. Eddie Rosario was brought up to take his spot on the roster. Analysis: Howard Bender

Marlins have until 2 p.m. Tuesday to trade Jarrod Saltalamacchia before he goes on release waivers.

The Marlins have been quietly shopping Salty around for the past month but to no avail. Few teams are interested in mediocre defensive skills and a batting average below the Mendoza line. They will likely just release him. Analysis: Howard Bender
