Dustin McGowan will make his next scheduled start on Sunday.
With Marcus Stroman pitching well in the minors and he and McGowan on the exact same throwing schedule, there's been plenty of talk of him replacing McGowan in the rotation. But John Gibbons isn't giving up on McGowan just yet and will allow him to at least make his next start. We assume that Gibbons will just take it on a game-by-game basis.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Luol Deng (knee) won't return Sunday.
Michael Beasley is likely the candidate to replace the Deng starting minutes for the rest of the way. There is no word on the long term implications of the injury yet, but if there is, Beasley might be a solid play for the rest of the season. Analysis: Dom Murtha
Athletics reassign Luke Carlin, Max Muncy and Andy Parrino to minor league camp.
One of these things is not like the other. Muncy is a 23-year old prospect, while Carlin and Parrino are older journeymen. Muncy, a first baseman, his 21 home runs in 2013 at High-A in 428 plate appearances. But the power hasn't translated to Double-A yet as he hit just seven home runs in 530 plate appearances there last year. Muncy isn't really a prospect you have to know, but he's far more notable than Carlin and Parrino. Analysis: Brett Talley
