Mat Latos hoped to get on a bullpen mound by week's end if he reached 120 feet in long-toss, but manager Bryan Price would like Latos to stretch out some more.
Price is being cautious here, but as the Reds pitching coach the last few seasons, he knows Latos pretty well. Of course Latos wants to get back on the mound quickly; he's a competitor. But Price is looking at the long-term and will win out in the end. Be patient, Latos owners. His time will come soon enough.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Tim Duncan (rest) will not play Friday against Denver.
The Spurs will take advantage of the holiday and give Duncan an extra day of rest and get ready for Saturday against the Hawks. The Spurs could go with LaMarcus Aldridge at center for Friday and use David West at power forward or they could just give Boris Diaw the start. Either way, those are the three players likely to see the extra work in Duncan's absence. Analysis: Howard Bender
