Reds hope to have Mat Latos throwing off the mound within a week.
While rehabbing his knee, Latos ended up straining the flexor mass in his forearm which shut him down completely. He's been throwing off flat ground and just started playing catch last week. He should throw off a mound soon and manager Bryan Price said that he would only need two or three bullpen sessions before facing live hitters. He's still a couple of weeks away though. Carl Crawford exited Monday night's game with tightness in his right side.
It was only a matter of time before the glass-made Crawford cracked in some capacity. It's unknown whether or not he'll need a DL stint to rid him of the tightness, but if he does Scott Van Slyke and Alex Guerrero are likely to fill in for him. Guerrero has been among the hottest hitters in baseball, in a limited role, and would become mixed league relevant if/when he finds himself in the lineup. Don Mattingly, however, doesn't appear to be Guerrero's biggest fan. Let's hope he's not pigeon-holed to pinch-hitting duties. Analysis: Spencer Silva
