A.J. Burnett tossed eight scoreless innings and allowed just five hits with no walks and eight strikeouts to beat the Diamondbacks 2-0 on Sunday.
With this outing, Burnett has now turned in three-straight quality starts and allowed just two runs over his last 21.2 innings for a 0.83 ERA and a 18:3 K:BB. He's going deeper into games and maintaining strong command throughout each outing. He'll face the Nationals next week, a team against whom Burnett has a 1.64 ERA over his last three starts. Chris Iannetta went 2-for-4 with a grand slam against Detroit on Thursday.
Like several of his teammates, Iannetta has been bitten by the bad BABIP bug so far this season. However, Iannetta strikes out too much to ever help out in the batting average category. But he may not be as much of a drag going forward. The more concerning issue is his power, which, going back to last season, has been significantly reduced in his last 500 plate appearances. On the wrong side of 30, Iannetta may not see his power stroke return. Analysis: Brett Talley
