FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Ian Desmond has 3-hit night in four at-bats to help lead the Nats to a 4-0 win over the Padres Saturday.

Desmond, who was one of just four infielders last season to hit at least 18 home runs and steal at least 14 bases, has finally begun to heat up as he is 6-for-9 over his last two games with two doubles, three RBI, two run scored, a stolen base, and no strikeouts. ANALYST: Michael Pichan

Glen Perkins confirmed on Monday that his forearm feels strong and healthy.

Perkins was shut down for the final two weeks of the year last year with forearm soreness and, as always, that tends to indicate a potential elbow problem. He claims to be pain-free for some time now, but expect the Twins to keep a very close eye on him throughout the spring. Analysis: Howard Bender

Bradley Beal (leg) said he felt no pain after Saturday's game, he was just a little winded in the beginning.

After more than a week off to deal with a stress reaction, Beal returned to action over the weekend and looks like he'll be ready to resume his normal starting duties. The time off obviously didn't help his conditioning, but he'll get his stamina back soon enough. Analysis: Howard Bender

Chiefs officially placed their franchise tag on LB Justin Houston.

The Chiefs have been talking about Houston getting franchised for some time now, so this doesn't come as much of a shock. Look for them to continue negotiating with him, but they will also start focusing on a game plan for other free agents. Analysis: Howard Bender

Broncos will officially place their franchise tag on WR Demaryius Thomas before Monday's deadline.

This was expected. Look for the Broncos to keep negotiating a deal with Thomas though while perhaps also looking for a way to retain Julius Thomas as well. Analysis: Howard Bender

Lions will not use the franchise tag on DT Ndamukong Suh.

There has been a lot of back-and-forth internally as to whether the Lions want to bring Suh back and obviously cost is a major issue as he will command quite the hefty salary on the open market. But they won't use the franchise tag here as they know the bitterness it will cause between player and team. Look for the Lions to make the defensive lineman a competitive offer but they won't break the bank to keep him. Analysis: Howard Bender

Adam Wainwright (abdominal strain) is meeting with trainers to get the green light. He's scheduled to throw a bullpen Monday.

Wainwright has been dealing with the strain, an injury he's never had, for about a week now. The team has been taking his recovery slowly so not to aggravate it. If he passes preliminary tests, he should get the green light to throw. Analysis: Howard Bender
