Manager Mike Scioscia says he'll go with Joe Smith as his closer for now.
Scoop up Smith if you are chasing saves, but those that own Ernesto Frieri I would not be quick to let him go as he easily could get the job back if he makes the necessary adjustment and in the meantime he would still help you by providing a good number of strikeouts for a guy who pitches one inning. The 76ers have waived JaVale McGee.
McGee, oddly enough, came out and said he wanted to be a "mentor" to the young players on the Sixers after arriving at the trade deadline. Just a few weeks late, McGee will be packing his bags, hoping he picks up with a contender. The seven-footer reportedly will not have to give back any money in a buyout, and is owed the remainder of his $11.2 million contract, along with $12 million next year. Analysis: Spencer Silva
