Glen Perkins earned his fourth save of the season after tossing a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout against the Rays on Wednesday.
After a rough start to the 2014 season, Perkins has started to settle down, and has not allowed an earned run over his last six appearances while going 3-for-3 in save chances. He is currently sitting on a 4.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP, but are both bound to steadily decrease if he continues trending in the right direction. ANALYST: Matthew Beck
Javier Baez was in the middle of a nasty collision Friday at second base while trying to turn a double play. It looked bad enough manager Joe Maddon was a bit nervous Baez may have suffered a serious injury.
Baez will be fine, but it was indeed a scary moment for the Cubs. Kole Calhoun took Baez out on a double play, but instead of him sliding into his feet, due to the position that Baez was in, he was drilled in the midsection by Calhoun's elbow. As Maddon accurately put it, he "got smoked." Being Joe Maddon, he of course added in that "I loved it." Initially Maddon feared that Baez was seriously injured as he writhed in pain on the ground, but the former top prospect, who is just 22, will be fine and even singled in singled in a later at bat. He is a risky fantasy proposition, who may not even make the Opening Day squad, but his upside is ridiculous. Analysis: Ben Diamond
