Evan Gattis is not in the Braves starting lineup on Wednesday.
Playing a day game following a night game, the Braves have elected to sit their slugging catcher in favor of Gerald Laird on Wednesday. Gattis has proved to his doubters that last year's breakout was not a fluke, blasting five homers thus far in April. Expect him back in the middle of the Braves order when they open up a series with the Reds on Friday. ANALYST: Matthew Beck
Ryan Ludwick has been told he will not make the Rangers.
Ludwick is considering his options at the moment, which include going down to Triple-A until the big league club needs his services, or requesting a release and looking for another team that can offer him a spot on the 25-man roster. No matter what happens, though, he is not going to be fantasy relevant. Ludwick's calling card is power, but he last hit over 20 home runs in 2012 with 26 (and before that was in 2009), and the now-36 year old is only losing power potential at this point. Brady Aiken announced Thursday that he had Tommy John surgery.
This is unfortunate for Aiken as he now probably wishes that he signed with the Astros last summer after being the number one pick in last year's draft. Instead, he suffered an arm injury last week and will now be on the shelf for the next year. He still has a high ceiling, but his overall value is definitely diminished at this point.
