Cam Newton says he's on a "rapid" pace to recover from ankle surgery.
Feels like we've heard all of this before. To quote a little Shakespeare, "Methinks thou doth protest too much," Cam. The procedure Newton underwent last month to tighten the ligaments in his ankle needs a decent recovery time. While we admire his desire to get back on the field, Newton shouldn't be rushing anything right now. Whether he recovers at a "rapid pace" or not, he'll still be ready once training camp opens, so why not just take it easy? No one is taking your job away, cam. Rest easy now and be healthy for the season.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Mike Montgomery will make his scheduled start on Sunday.
Montgomery, the Mariners young left-hander, is riding back-to-back complete game shutouts, one of which was a one-hitter. It's tough to be hotter than Montgomery is right now, considering his perfect ERA (0.00), strikeout total (17), and hits allowed (6) over the last two starts, so lets sit back on Sunday and see if he can finally complete the no-hitter against the Oakland A's. Diamondbacks announce Patrick Corbin will start on Saturday.
Corbin has been saying to the media for the past couple of weeks that he's "feeling ready to go" and that he is confident that his stuff is "just as good as it was before". If we choose to believe him, Corbin will be a solid start on Saturday, but coming off a long rehabbed surgery, it might be better to wait on Corbin until he shows a body of work in his post surgery career.
