Closer Jonathan Papelbon is stricken with flu-like symptoms. "He's a little iffy" for Monday, Ryne Sandberg said.
While not overly impressive this season, Papelbon has racked up five saves in six chances. Papelbon had a spat with the media this past week over his velocity, but this is an entirely different matter that has nothing to do with pitch speed. Consider him day-to-day for now, but it is unlikely that he will miss any time.ANALYST: David Kerr
Phillies recalled Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies seem ready to commit to Asche as their new starting left fielder which certainly gums up the outfield configuration for veterans like Ben Revere, Grady Sizemore and Jeff Francoeur. It also displaces Darin Ruf. While they may be happy with the defensive work he did down in the minors, Asche's bat never really heated up, so the team is still going to have some serious offensive woes. This plan may have looked good on paper, but it should be re-visited in a couple of weeks to see how things are panning out. Analysis: Howard Bender
