FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Josh Donaldson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and a run scored against the Astros on Sunday.

After a rough start to the season, Donaldson has bounced back nicely over the last few weeks, raising his average to .272 with three homers and 13 RBI. He has now hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, with five being of the mulit-hit variety. As long as he continues to rack up the extra-base hits (11 XBH), there is no reason to think he can't repeat his 2013 breakout campaign. ANALYST: Matthew Beck

Jose Bautista expects to return to the BlueJays lineup "sometime in the next few days." He is taking batting practice on Monday.

That doesn't necessarily contradict an earlier report that Bautista could DH Monday, but it certainly doesn't sound like Bautista expects to play Monday. If Bautista does DH upon his return it would push Justin Smoak out of the lineup. When Bautista returns to the field Michael Saunders and Kevin Pillar would likely platoon in left field.  Analysis: Steve Pimental

Edinson Volquez dropped his appeal and accepted his five-game suspension.

Volquez will likely make his next start May 2 at home against the Tigers. It isn't a particularly favorable matchup, but if you normally use Volquez you should get him in your lineup. Analysis: Steve Pimental

The Rays are moving John Jaso (left wrist sprain) to the 60 day DL, it pushes his return into early June.

Unless you are in a deep OBP league or have unlimited DL spots, there is no reason to hold onto Jaso. He is a borderline top-12 fantasy catcher when healthy. When Jaso does return he could cut into David DeJesus's playing time, as DeJesus has primarily been a DH this season. Analysis: Steve Pimental

The Dodgers have traded LHP Xavier Cedeno to the Rays for cash.

The Dodgers had designated Cedeno for assignment to make room on their 40-man roster for Sergio Santos. Cedeno has a 5.24 ERA in 55 career big-league innings across five seasons. He has 8.84 K/9 over his career, but he needs to cut back on the walks if he is ever going to have a meaningful bullpen role in the big leagues. The Rays have a deep bullpen that is only going to get deeper when Jake McGee returns, and there is little chance Cedeno makes an impact this season. Analysis: Steve Pimental

The Celtics are willing to trade a first rounder to dump Gerald Wallace.

Wallace played just 32 games this season for a Celtics team largely devoid of talent. The Celtics have a couple of first-rounders to spare, but that still seems like a high price to pay just to get rid of him. Wallace is unlikely to play much wherever he ends up, but it is always possible a change of scenery could be just what he needs. Wallace and a pick could be an enticing package for the Knicks and Lakers, both teams with cap space desperately in need of warm bodies and draft picks. Wallace could even have fringe fantasy value with one of those teams. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Max Scherzer (sprained right thumb) is getting information from a specialist, but the Nationals are optimistic he will miss no more than one start.

If Scherzer does have to miss a second start he would almost certainly go on the DL. Tanner Roark will not start for Scherzer Tuesday, but he would be a candidate if Scherzer's injury turns out to be more serious. The Nationals will likely call somebody up from Triple-A to make a spot start, which is probably good news for Atlanta's hitters. Analysis: Steve Pimental

The Redskins will pick up the fifth-year option on Robert Griffin III’s contract.

Griffin is still relatively cheap though he has failed to live up to his draft position. If he is finally healthy he obviously has immense fantasy upside, but there is no reason to draft any Washington quarterback for fantasy outside of two-quarterback leagues. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Jae Crowder has been diagnosed with a left ACL sprain.

Depending on the severity of the sprain, Crowder could miss a significant part of next season, but with all summer off to recover he has a pretty good chance to be ready to go from day one. Crowder has a ton of potential, but he is mostly a deep-league play for fantasy at this stage of his career. Analysis: Steve Pimental
