Jason Motte (elbow) threw a scoreless inning in an extended spring training game on Saturday.
And the list of injured pitchers for the Cards that are getting ready for game action continues to grow. If he has no setbacks prior to his rehab game(s), expect him to be back in action come late April. Joining Carlos Martinez and Kevin Siegrist will lead to a strong, dominant late inning relief corps that can turn games over the Trevor Rosenthal in the ninth inning.ANALYST: Ivar G. Anderson
Wandy Rodriguez allowed just one run on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts over five innings against the Angels on Friday.
Sigh. He’s like that bad penny you just can’t get rid of, no matter how hard you try. Just when you think Major League teams have had enough of him and his boring mediocrity, someone goes and brings good ol’ Wandy back from the dead. It’s difficult to imagine that he’ll last long with the Rangers, especially with the number of home runs he normally allows, but consider this the warning to stay away. This start may not look bad on the surface, but it’s just setting you up for something downright horrible in the future. He’ll get another start next week against the Mariners, but we cannot, in good conscience, recommend using him. Analysis: Howard Bender
