Carlos Santana says he's playing with sore left groin and it's hurting his hitting.

Well this a change from an earlier report in which Terry Francona expressed concern over supposed comments made by Santana that the position switches have affected his hitting. If it's an injury, then the team can deal with it appropriately, but if it's the position-switching that has him all twisted up, then Francona needs to find him a permanent home on the field and stick with it. This sounds like it could be a hot discussion over the next several days, so prepare yourself. Santana is currently batting .186 with no home runs and just one RBI.ANALYST: Howard Bender

Brett Cecil, who has been great in a late-inning role the last two years, has the skills to be the team’s ninth inning guy, but manager John Gibbons said Cecil may not win the role.

This has been a weird situation between Gibbons and Cecil. Cecil wants to be the team's closer, Gibbons feels like he can do the job but doesn't have faith in his guy. "He could do it. He might not. It might be somebody else," said Gibbons. The guys who might take Cecil's job is Aaron Sanchez. Cecil, since becoming a full-time reliever in 2013, has a 2.76 ERA and a 146/50 K/BB ratio in 114 innings over the last two seasons.  Analysis: Drew Phelps

Jarryd Parker (elbow) is scheduled to throw all his pitches in a bullpen session on Tuesday for the first time since surgery.

This will be an interesting season for Parker as he's coming off of his second career Tommy John surgery in March of 2014. He is still just 26 years old and is expected back in the Athletics rotation by midseason. Parker owns a career 3.68 ERA with a 275/127 K/BB ratio in 384 innings. Analysis: Drew Phelps

Jonathan Lucroy (hamstring) is expected to receive some at-bats in minor league spring games next week

Lucroy is trying to get on the field in Spring Training after a partially torn hamstring tendon. The timetable was set at 4-6 weeks back in early February when he suffered the injury. He is still on track to be ready for Brewers' Opening Day.  Analysis: Drew Phelps

Casey Kelly (strained groin) is increasing the intensity of his on-field baseball activities, manager Bud Black said. He hopes to throw a side session Friday.

Kelly is slowly recovering from a slight groin strain which he suffered early last week. This upper tier prospect has shown a lot of promise for the Padres. The 25-year-old, if healthy, could begin the season in the rotation with Triple-A Tucson. Analysis: Drew Phelps

DeMarcus Cousins (Left Ankle Sprain) has been upgraded to probable for Tuesday.

Cousins has missed the past two games with this left ankle sprain. Carl Landry and Reggie Evans will lose their extra minutes and fantasy value as Cousins steps back in. Rudy Gay's usage rate will drop as well with Cousins returning to the court. Analysis: Drew Phelps

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Jose Peraza could see time at shortstop in addition to second base this spring.

The 20-year-old Peraza was impressive at the minor league level in 2014. He slugged to a tune of .339/.364/.441 with 60 stolen bases. The Braves look like they want to do whatever they can to get him to the major league as soon as possible even if that means changing positions. Analysis: Drew Phelps

The Cowboys and Cole Beasley agreed on a four-year deal worth $13.6 million.

Mr. Beasley should be all smiles today after signing his new deal with the Cowboys. The slot receiver played well in 2014 with 37 catches for 420 yards and four touchdowns. The Cowboys will have their core receivers back together in 2015 with Dez Bryant getting the franchised.  Analysis: Drew Phelps

The Heat have signed forward Henry Walker to a second 10-day contract.

This comes as no surprised as Walker has played terrific for the Heat in his short time in Miami. We will continue to see lots of Henry with Chris Bosh out for the season and the Heat being as depleted as they are behind Hassan Whiteside in the frontcourt. Analysis: Drew Phelps

Taj Gibson is still in a walking boot. He is expected to be out for at least another week or two.

The Bulls have already made the decision to sit Gibson through this week and now it looks like we won't see him next week as well. Fire up Nikola Mirotic as he'll see an increase in minutes off the Bulls' bench while Pau Gasol and Joakim Noah will also see a bump in fantasy value.  Analysis: Drew Phelps

Ryan Tannehill said talks for a contract extension with the Dolphins have not yet begun.

Back in early February, there was a report that the Dolphins were discussing a contract extension that could pay Ryan Tannehill $105 million over seven seasons but that seems to have been put on the back burner. Colin Kaepernick and Andy Dalton signed similar contracts last offseason but only the first one or two seasons are guaranteed. He owns a 66.4 percent completion percentage in 2014 was fifth-best in the NFL. Tannehill turns 27 in July. Analysis: Drew Phelps

Nuggets have fired head coach Brian Shaw.

No one can really be surprised being that the Nuggets are 20-39 on the season. There have been no reports of who the replacement might be but fantasy owners have to be happy with this news as it's been near impossible to predict Shaw's rotations.  Analysis: Drew Phelps

Jets have been trying to lower Percy Harvin's salary to keep him.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports' said that he "would be shocked" if Percy Harvin agreed to take a cut in pay to stay in New York. Harvin is due a non-guaranteed $10.5 million but the Jets are trying to lower that number. If he does say no like most think, there's a chance the Jets could release Harvin. The New England Patriots have let it be known that they are big fans of the wide receiver and would be a prime candidate to pick him up if he became available.  Analysis: Drew Phelps

Hyun-Jin Ryu finished his bullpen session free of pain or any setbacks. Manager Don Mattingly said Ryu's next step will likely be throwing batting practice.

It looks like Ryu has recovered nicely from tweaking a muscle in his back last week. Don Mattingly let the media know that Ryu would next start to throw live batting practice. We should see him in Cactus League action soon. Analysis: Drew Phelps Mobile App
