Fantasy Player Updates & News

Glen Perkins picked up save number two Sunday pitching a scoreless ninth with one strikeout.

Perkins has struggled in the early going (4 ER through 4 IP), but was able to pick up the pieces and earn his second save on Sunday. He was one of the more reliable closers in the league a season ago, so hopefully this outing will help him get the ball rolling in the right direction. ANALYST: Matthew Beck

Jake McGee (elbow) is scheduled to pitch Friday for Triple-A Durham.

McGee has already pitched in three minor-league games during his rehab assignment and is expected to work in three more before making a return to the Rays' bullpen. The 28-year-old lefty will likely be eased back into the closer's role in Tampa Bay. Analysis: Nate Miller

Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will throw to live hitters for the first time on Friday.

This is obviouslya big step in the recovery process, as Doolittle continues to be on track for a late-May return to the Athletics' bullpen.  Analysis: Nate Miller

Justin Verlander (triceps) threw 50 times from 60 feet on Wednesday.

This is certainly a positive development for Verlander. The veteran hurler's season was originally expected to get started by the end of April, but he has gone through plenty of setbacks and been limited to "extremely light toss" in recent days according to Manager Brad Ausmus.  Analysis: Nate Miller

Wesley Wright (left trapezius strain) will throw off a mound for the first time on Monday.

Wright continues to progress toward a possible mid-May return to the Orioles' bullpen. The 30-year-old lefty has been out since April 10th. Analysis: Nate Miller

Jaime Garcia (shoulder) will being his rehab assignment on Sunday at Triple-A Memphis.

Garcia worked five innings during a simulated game last week and delivered 70 pitches in live batting practice Tuesday afternoon. The oft-injured lefty is eyeing a late-May return. Analysis: Nate Miller

Update: Steve Pearce (illness) is available off the bench on Wednesday.

Pearce has been dealing with an illness lately which knocked him out of the lineup Tuesday. He'll take a seat again Wednesday to heal and should be back in the lineup soon enough. Analysis: Nate Miller

Leonys Martin (wrist) likely needs at least two more days before being ready to return to the lineup.

Martin is considered day-to-day, but will be out of the Rangers' starting lineup for a second consecutive day. Delino Deshields Jr. will cover center field for the Rangers. Analysis: Nate Miller

Manager Buck Showalter said it's possible J.J. Hardy will join the team on Thursday.

After his season debut has been pushed back much further than originally expected due to a shoulder injury, Hardy appears to be on the verge of returning to the Orioles' lineup. Analysis: Nate Miller

Carlos Rodon will start on Saturday.

Rodon will make his first MLB start Saturday, as news came earlier that Jeff Samardzija will drop his appeal on his recent suspension. Rodon has allowed two earned runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out four over 6 1/3 innings out of the White Sox' bullpen this season. Analysis: Nate Miller

Diamondbacks' GM Dave Stewart says Jarrod Saltalamacchia is on his radar.

It would certainly be a reasonable move for the Diamondbacks to add an experienced catcher such as Saltalamacchia. The team has been relying upon Tuffy Gosewisch and Jordan Pacheco behind the plate to this point. Analysis: Nate Miller

Jordan Walden does not need elbow surgery but will be out 6 to 10 weeks with a strain.

it is obviously good news that Walden does not need elbow surgery, at least for now, but the flame-throwing setup man will still be out of the Cardinals' bullpen for a significant period of time. Analysis: Nate Miller

Astros will not have a diagnosis on George Springer (head) until he meets with doctors later this afternoon.

Springer is obviously out of Wednesday's starting lineup after crashing into the right-field wall Tuesday night. The young slugger will be tested for a concussion and possibly head to the 7-day DL afterward. Expect Robbie Grossman to see plenty of at-bats in Springer's absence.  Analysis: Nate Miller
