FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Update: Paul Millsap said his thumb is sore, but should be OK. He had to bend his fingernail all the way back into position.

Monta Ellis scored 34 points with two rebounds, nine assists and three steals the Mavericks 130-128 loss to the Rockets on Friday to fall down 3-0 in their Western Conference playoff matchup.

Ellis is averaging 24.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.3 three-pointers per game this series as the Rockets have nobody to really contain him but unless the Mavericks themselves can play some defense they are likely to get swept this series. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Dirk Nowitzki scored 34 points with eight rebounds, four assists and one block in the Mavericks 130-128 loss to the Rockets on Friday to fall down 3-0 in their Western Conference playoff matchup.

As many had expected Dirk has stepped his game up in the playoffs as he is averaging 22.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 three-pointers per game. The Mavericks lack a big that can defend the perimeter which should allow Drik to continue to have big nights but unless the MAvericks can controll James Harden they could be going home following Game 4. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

James Harden scored a game high 42 points with five rebounds, nine assists and one steal in the Rockets 130-128 win over the Mavericks to take a 3-0 series lead in their Western Conference playoff matchup.

Harden is averaging 30.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 8.7 assists and 2.3 three-pointers per game this series against the Mavericks and has been the key reason to the Rockets 3-0 lead in the series. Mavericks lack the defensive capability to stop Harden so they will have to just hope he goes cold if they plan on coming back this series. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Dwight Howard registered a double-double on Friday, scoring 13 points with 26 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in the Rockets 130-128 win over the Mavericks to take a 3-0 series lead in their Western Conference playoff matchup.

Howard is averaging 17.3 points, 14.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in the Rockets three games this series as he's making a clear impact. Baring a miraculous comeback the Rockets should win this and with both Howard and Harden playing at the top of their game the Rockets will make for a tough opponent next round. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Justin Smoak went 1-for-1 with a solo home run in the Blue Jays 12-3 loss to the Rays on Friday.

Smoak hit a pinch hit home run for the Blue Jays on Friday in their blowout loss. The home run was his second of the season but given his limited playing time, primarily as a bench player there is little fantasy value here. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Devon Travis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the Blue Jays 12-3 loss to the Rays on Friday.

Travis smacked his fifth home run of the season on Friday as the 24 year old rookie continues his hot streak to start the season. Hes hitting an impressive .375 with 12 runs and 16 RBI to go along with his five home runs and currently ranks among the top second basemen in baseball this season. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

R.A. Dickey allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits while walking one and failing to record a strikeout over 4.2 innings of work in the Blue Jays 12-3 loss to the Rays on Friday.

As will happen from time to time with a knuckleballer Dickey got shelled on Friday, allowing a season high seven runs. After not allowing a home run over his first two starts Dickey has now given up four long balls over his last two which does not bode well for his success. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Tim Beckham entered the game as a pinch hitter and went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored in the Rays 12-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Beckham pinch hit for David DeJesus and homered. He later collected another hit to raise his batting average to .278 on the season with seven runs, three home runs and eight RBI. He has been productive coming off the bench for the Rays and could force his way into the starting lineup if he continues to produce when given the opportunity.  Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Rene Rivera went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored in the Rays 12-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Rivera has been abysmal so far this season, hitting .143 with three runs, one home run and five RBI. He hit 11 home runs in 103 games for the Padres last season which had some believing he could easily reach that level of production with everyday at bats with the Rays this season but as of now he should not be owned. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

James Loney went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored in the Rays 12-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Loney was activated off the DL prior to Fridays game and immediately produced with his first home run of the season. Loney is not known for his power but provides a solid batting average and on base percentage since coming over to the Rays a few seasons ago. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Matt Andriese allowed one earned run on two hits while striking out one over three innings to earn his first save of the season in the Rays 12-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Andriese has not been good for the Rays this season but he was given the opportunity to eat some innings in a game that had gotten out of hand. He earned his first career save as he pitched the final three innings but its not an indication the Rays will be using him in any high leverage situations any time soon. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Drew Smyly allowed two earned runs on four hits while walking none and striking out five over 4.2 innings in the Rays 12-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Smyly came off the DL on Friday and made his first start of the season against a tough Blue Jays lineup. He failed to qualify for the win as he ran into a bit of trouble in the fifth inning before being removed after throwing just 79 pitches. Smyly came to the Rays last season in the trade that sent David Price to the Tigers and he was impressive, going 3-1 with a 1.70 ERA over seven starts. The Rays have high hopes for Smyly this season but will take it easy on him to start given his recent DL stint. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Bryce Harper went 2-for-2 with two RBI in the Nationals 3-2 loss to the Marlins on Friday.

Harpers two hits rose his season average to .286 to go with 11 runs, four home runs and 10 RBI. Health has been the main issue with Harper but give his superstar ceiling fantasy owners are hoping this is the year he plays a full season and fulfills reaches expectations. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Jordan Zimmerman allowed two earned runs on six hits while walking none and striking out four over six innings in the Nationals 3-2 loss to the Marlins on Friday.

Zimmerman notched his third quality start of the season on Friday but again failed to pick up the victory as his record stands at 1-2 with a 5.23 ERA over his first four starts of the season. His overall numbers are skewed by a seven run shellacking given by the Red Sox but against NL teams he has yet to allow more than two runs while going six innings in each start. Zimmerman went 14-5 with a 2.66 ERA last season in 32 starts and should continue to be among the National Leagues top starters as the season progresses. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Adeiny Hechavarria went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in the Marlins 3-2 win over the Nationals on Friday.

Hechavarria has a seven game hitting streak which has seen his average rise to .328 with 14 runs, one home run and 10 RBI on the year. He hit .276 last season for the Marlins but offers very little in the power and speed department to be worthy of fantasy considerations. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba
