Fantasy Player Updates & News

Kevin Garnett will play limited minutes Saturday against the 76ers.

Alex Colome allowed two earned runs on four hits while walking none and striking out four over five innings of work in the Rays 5-3 win over the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Colome earned his second win in as many starts this season as he held the Red Sox to just two earned runs. Colome has been rather efficient with his pitch counts over his first two starts but has yet to pitch past the fifth inning which is likely frustrating some fantasy owners. Given that he missed the first month of the season and spring training after falling ill the Rays are likely just being overly cautious with Colome out of the gate. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

CC Sabathia allowed four earned runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out four over 6.1 innings in the Yankees 5-1 loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Sabathia fell to 0-5 on the season following the loss on Wednesday with a 5.45 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. It has been a tough past couple years for CC who was limited to just eight starts last year due to injury and struggled in 2013 with a career high 4.78 ERA. After dominating hitters for nearly a decade it looks as if father time has caught up to Sabathia as these days fantasy owners are likely to stack lineups against him in daily leagues than they are to avoid hitters who will be facing him. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Chris Colabello went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs, one RBI and one stolen base in the Blue Jays 5-1 win over the Yankees on Wednesday.

Colabello has gone 6-for-8 in his two games since being recalled with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI. Many fantasy players likely remember Colabello from his stint with the Twins last season where he got off to a hot start, hitting .286 with 11 runs, three home runs and 27 RBI in the month of April only to crash down to earth and ultimately find himself back in the minors come June following a miserable month of May where he hit .125. While his immediate success is great for potential daily league players, he has very little standard league appeal at this point. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Russell Martin went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and one RBI in the Blue Jays 5-1 win over the Yankees on Wednesday.

Martin continues to rake, having hit .455 with six runs, three home runs and five RBI over the past seven days. Overall this season hes hitting .286 with 20 runs, seven home runs, 18 RBI and two stolen bases which ranks him among the top catchers in baseball this season. There was plenty of promise for Martin heading into the season given his new home ballpark, the lineup surrounding him and the hitter friendly A.L. East which should all afford Martin the potential for a career year with good health. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Mark Buehrle allowed one earned run on six hits while walking one and striking out three over five innings in the Blue Jays 5-1 win over the Yankees on Wednesday.

Buehrle improved his record to 4-2 on the season but his ERA sits at a miserable 6.00 to go with an even worse 1.85 WHIP. The soft tossing lefty had allowed 13 runs over his previous 10 innings but was able to stifle the aging Yankees lineup. His next start will come on the road against a Cleveland team that is hitting just .236 against southpaws this season with a lowly .690 OPS. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Melky Cabrera went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBI on Wednesday night vs Detroit.

It’s good to see Melky finally get on the board this season, as his power drought rarely lasts this far into the second month of the season. At this point in the veteran’s career, it is fair to assume what we are going to get out of him in terms of offensive production. Even with the rather slow start, I would bank on numbers in the ball park of a .300 average, 15 home runs, and 65 RBI when the season is all said and done. Hang onto the player unless he gets suspended for PED’s again.  Analysis: Dom Murtha
