Blake Griffin (back spasms) is doubtful for Wednesday's game in Phoenix.

This will be the second straight game he has missed. Back spasms are a strange thing so it will be hard to know when he will actually return. Griffin has had a great season by averaging 24 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assist per game. He should be a first round pick next season.ANALYST: Mark Kaplan

Connor Hamlett re-signed with the Jaguars on Wednesday.

The rookie was cut earlier this week, but went unclaimed on waivers. With the news that Julius Thomas would miss some time due to a hand injury, Jacksonville decided to bring him back into the fold. Analysis: David Kerr

Carlos Martinez (back) will return to the mound and start on Friday.

Martinez was scratched from Tuesday's start so that he could get an extra two days of rest. The Cardinals are trying to limit his innings down the stretch so that his arm is fresh for the postseason. He will make the start on Friday against the Pirates. Analysis: David Kerr

Steven Souza (hand) took batting practice on Wednesday and will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Saturday.

This is good news for Souza as the rookie outfielder hopes to get some at-bats for the Rays down the stretch. Though he owns just a .214 average, his mix of 15 homer and 10 steals shows that he has value in mixed leagues. Add him if you're in need of either category. Analysis: David Kerr

Clay Buchholz (elbow) made 24 throws from 75 feet Wednesday.

This is positive news for Buchholz as he continues to work his way back from a flexor strain that he suffered earlier this year. Boston's president Dave Dombrowski previously stated that Buchholz would miss the rest of the season, but the veteran righty is hoping to return in relief down the stretch. Analysis: David Kerr

Michael Taylor (knee) has been scratched from Wednesday night's game.

It hasn't been confirmed, but Taylor was likely scratched due to lingering knee issues. Danny Espinosa will replace Taylor in the Nationals' lineup and bat eighth on Wednesday night. Analysis: David Kerr

Barring a setback, Joe Panik will rehab with Triple-A Sacramento Thursday. Giants hoping he's ready to return to lineup Monday in Phoenix.

Panik has been out for the majority of August with a back inflammation, but seems to be in line to rejoin this Giants on Labor Day. If you're in need of batting average down the stretch, Panik is someone that should be added to your roster. Analysis: David Kerr

Howie Kendrick is still not 100%. Once he's able to run full speed, he'll be cleared for rehab/simulated games.

The Dodgers have some breathing room in the NL West, so there isn't a need to rush Kendrick back at this time. At this rate, the Dodgers would like to get him back a couple of weeks before the playoffs begin so he has enough time to shake the rust off. In the meantime, Chase Utley will receive the majority of the starts at second base. Analysis: David Kerr

Mike Bolsinger will start one time through rotation, says manager Don Mattingly, but the day hasn't been decided yet.

With rosters expanded, the Dodgers are taking advantage of their lead in the NL West and giving Bolsinger an opportunity to start. This move is being made in an effort to give Los Angeles' starting rotation an extra day of rest. Bolsinger is likely to start over the weekend against the Padres, but it hasn't been decided as to whether it is a one shot deal. Analysis: David Kerr
