Pau Gasol and Chris Kaman will both start Tuesday night against the Portland Trailblazers

Pretty sure this is the first time both of these players will be starting together this season. The Lakers will have a big, but slow front court with these two guys starting.ANALYST: Mark Kaplan

Ravens cut undrafted rookie QB Jerry Lovelocke.

Lovelocke looked completely overmatched among NFL players so he loses his spot as the team brings in Trent Steelman, the former Army quarterback. Analysis: Howard Bender

Ravens have signed former Army QB Trent Steelman.

Steelman will get a look here with the Ravens but is a long shot at best. Matt Schaub is currently the main back-up behind Joe Flacco and Bryn Renner sits behind him. Analysis: Howard Bender

Efren Navarro was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Navarro was just up to fill in as depth with Mike Trout banged up, but wasn't seeing much in the way of work. He'll head back down and likely return when there is another depth need. Analysis: Howard Bender

John Mayberry Jr. has been officially released by the Mets.

With the additions of Yoenis Cespedes and Kelly Johnson, the Mets are flush with outfield help. Mayberry will look to pick up with another team in need of a bench bat. Analysis: Howard Bender

Brooks Brown (shoulder) made a rehab appearance at Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. He pitched one scoreless inning.

Brown hit the DL in June with shoulder inflammation but finally appears ready. He'll make another appearance or two in the minors but should then rejoin the Rockies bullpen soon after. Analysis: Howard Bender

Louis Vasquez is back for practice on Saturday after sitting out Friday night's walk through with an illness.

It was just a stomach flu, nothing more. He is fine and back on the field. No need for any concern. Not that you had any to begin with. Analysis: Howard Bender

Travis Shaw was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday and is in the starting lineup.

With Pablo Sandoval nursing a bone bruise, Shaw will get the opportunity to work the hot corner for a little while. It may just be a game or two, but keep tabs on Sandoval's recovery for a more set timetable. Analysis: Howard Bender

Update: Daniel Kilgore (ankle) will miss at least the first half of training camp.

Kilgore had already been placed on the PUP list, so it's just the time estimate here. He had a follow-up procedure over the offseason from which he is still recovering and obviously needs a few more weeks. Analysis: Howard Bender

Percy Harvin has asked head coach Rex Ryan to play cornerback.

Harvin has struggled to find his way over the last few seasons and most seem to think he is having trouble learning the playbook. Not just in Buffalo, but in both Minnesota and Seattle as well. Maybe coverage schemes are a little easier to pick up than a route tree, but it looks like Harvin is getting to the point where he realizes that he might not be worthy of NFL stardom after all.  Analysis: Howard Bender

Browns DE Billy Winn was carted off with apparent leg injury on Saturday.

No word yet on the severity or exact nature of the injury, but being carted off is never a good thing. Consider him day-to-day for now but expect tests to be run and an update to follow soon enough. Analysis: Howard Bender

Mavericks officially sign free-agent forward Jeremy Evans.

After a career in Utah, Evans signed a two-year deal with the Mavericks. He will be a depth play, at best, and shouldn't be someone fantasy owners are targeting. Analysis: Howard Bender

NaVorro Bowman (knee) passed his conditioning test Friday and will be able to practice Saturday.

Bowman was a huge taklent in the middle for the 49ers before he blew out his knee. He's probnably going to need to be eased back in, but if he stays healthy, he should return to being a strong IDP play. You just have to take a wait-and-see approach. Analysis: Howard Bender

Jake Odorizzi will now start for the Rays on Sunday.

Odorizzi will push up a day to take the start in place of Nate Karns. Whether or not Karns is going to just swap or have a start skipped is not yet known. Manager Kevin Cash could just like the match-up better as Karns would then be facing the White Sox while Odorizzi takes on a slightly more troublesome lineup in Boston. Analysis: Howard Bender
