FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Kobe Bryant (knee) says he’ll resume basketball activities in a couple of weeks.

Ravens announce extension for cornerback Jimmy Smith.

The deal is said to give him an average of just under $10 million per year. Smith was heading into the final year of his rookie contract – a reported $6.9 million option that the team picked up before last season. Considering his level of play and contributions on defense, it would have been quite the bargain but probably would have left a bad taste in the cornerback's mouth. He should be all smiles though heading into camp now with a new deal. Analysis: Howard Bender

Arron Afflalo said his goal is to play for the Blazers in Game 2, but he was noncommittal on his status.

Afflalo is still dealing with a significant shoulder issue but was able to take part in pre-game warm-ups right before Game 1, so there is hope for a Game 2 return. He'll test it out once again Tuesday and if he doesn't incur any setbacks, he could be just fine to play. Analysis: Howard Bender

Derek Rose says he's feeling good physically and has no soreness of any kind.

Rose played 38 minutes in Game 2, so there are obviously no restrictions on him at all right now. If he's feeling good physically as well, then it should simply be business as usual and you can probably start using him for NBA playoff DFS games. Analysis: Howard Bender

Tim Frazier has won the D-League MVP and Rookie of the Year awards.

Congratulations to Frazier who recorded four triple-doubles in 41 games and averaged 16.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 9.5 assists per game. His 9.5 assists per game were good enough for the second most in the league, and he helped lead the Maine Red Claws to the best record in the D-League. Analysis: Howard Bender

The Marlins designated Matt Tracy for assignment.

The move bumps Tracy from the 40-man roster so that the team could call up Nick Masset. Tracy will probably hang out in the minors for the season. Analysis: Howard Bender

The Marlins optioned Jose Urena to Triple-A New Orleans.

The 23-year old right-hander has good stuff, but just doesn't see ready for a full-time role. He's made two appearances and allowed two runs over three innings. He'll be back at some point, but now is not the time. Analysis: Howard Bender

The Marlins have selected the contract of Nick Massett from Triple-A New Orleans.

Masset has made five appearances at Triple-A so far and has allowed one run with two saves and three strikeouts over six innings. He'll pitch out the the bullpen and his experience means that Marlins don't have to coddle him with low-leverage situations. Without a strong strikeout rate, he's not going to be of much use for fantasy .  Analysis: Howard Bender

Nikola Mirotic (quad) is doubtful for Game 3. The Bulls want to see how he reacts to treatment before they make a decision.

Mirotic left Monday's game early with the injury after a minor scuffle with Bucks center Zaza Pachulia. He never returned to the the court and the Bulls are deeming the injury as fairly serious. He'll test things out during pre-game warm-ups, but the chances of him playing aren't looking too good. Analysis: Howard Bender

Update: The Brewers have officially placed catcher Jonathan Lucroy on the 15-day disabled list with a toe injury.

It's a broken big toe, so while there is no set timetable for his return, it seems like it could be longer than the minimum 15 days. Martin Maldonado will assume primary catcher responsibilities and can be considered for NL-only play.  Analysis: Howard Bender

The Braves recall LHP Ian Thomas from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Thomas was a lefty specialist last season for the Braves, registering a 4.22 ERA in 16 appearances last season. He will likely serve in a similar role this season, allowing fantasy owners to comfortably leave him off their roster. Analysis: Colby Conway

Mirza Teletovic is listed as probable for Wednesday.

Teletovic was diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary embolus, meaning he had blood clots in his lungs. He hasn't played since January 22nd, but he looks like he will be on the court for Wednesday's game. It would be surprising to see him play a full workload of minutes seeing as its been three months since he's last played. Regardless, his return would be a nice emotional boost to his team. Analysis: Colby Conway
