Carmelo Anthony finished with a game-high 32 points to go with eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocks but it was not enough as the Knicks had their 8-game win streak snapped by the Cavs.

Melo remains the second leading scorer in the league with a little over 28 points per game. (Kevin Durant leads the league at 32.2 points per game). Anthony has scored 32-plus points in three of his last five games.ANALYST: Michael Pichan

Jason Pierre-Paul (hand) will return to the Giants next week.

Pierre-Paul suffered a fireworks accident in July as has been recovering ever since. There is no timetable as to when he will return to game action, but Pierre-Paul is hoping to play in the early part of the season. Analysis: David Kerr

Evan Spencer (concussion) will not play against the Jaguars on Thursday.

Concussion limit all players, so Spencer is going to sit out on Thursday night. This certainly hurts Spencer's chance to make the team as he is no lock. The one thing working in Spencer's favor is that he is viewed as a strong special teams player. We will learn his fate by Saturday afternoon. Analysis: David Kerr

DeVante Parker (foot) will plat against the Buccaneers on Thursday.

The rookie has been hampered by a foot injury, but will see at least a series or two on Thursday night. He is currently fourth on the Dolphins' depth chart, but with a strong showing early on, he could move into a starting role rather quickly. Analysis: David Kerr

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Andrew McCutchen's left knee had been bothering him on and off for five or six days and that the injury did not happen running to first last night.

This clears up some of the speculation surrounding McCutchen, but it doesn't give us a clear timetable as to when he will return. Consider McCutchen to be day-to-day for now, but it's likely he will return soon as the Pirates are in the thick of the NL playoff race. Analysis: David Kerr

Michael Martinez is expected to be promoted from Triple-A Columbus on Friday.

This is nothing more than a depth move by the Indians as rosters expanded this week. Martinez will be a late-inning defensive replacement. Analysis: David Kerr

The Indians are expected to promote Giovanni Soto from Triple-A Columbus on Friday.

This is Giovanni Soto the pitcher, just to be clear. The 24-year-old lefty owns a 2.20 ERA over 45 innings at Triple-A Columbus this season. Analysis: David Kerr

Bryce Harper is back in the starting lineup for the Nationals after exiting early on Wednesday with tight glutes.

It sounds as though Harper is ready to go, so he should be deployed in all lineups. He gets a juicy matchup against Matt Wisler on Thursday night, so paying up for him in DFS games is a good idea. Analysis: David Kerr

Daniel Murphy is considered day-to-day with a mild strain in his left quad.

Murphy has already missed time due to a quad injury, so the Mets are holding their collective breath. This injury isn't thought to be serious, but Murphy is still going to miss at least a couple of days. Continue to monitor his status over the coming days. Analysis: David Kerr

Dario Alvarez is expected to be promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Over 48 games in the minors this season, Alvarez owns a 3.00 ERA and has held opponents to a .181 batting average. He will work as a left-handed specialist out of the Mets' bullpen. Analysis: David Kerr

Brandon Weeden (concussion) is not likely to play against the Texans on Thursday.

It's a preseason game, so the Cowboys aren't going to have Weeden start and risk further injury. Dustin Vaughan will likely see the majority of playing time on Thursday night against the Texans. Analysis: David Kerr

Stephen Strasburg (back) had a successful bullpen session on Thursday and is expected to start next week, according to Nationals manager Matt Williams.

As of now it sounds like Strasburg has avoided yet another injury that causes him to miss time. It's been a rough season for the flame-throwing National, but hopefully he is able to finish out the season at full strength. Strasburg is 8-6 with a 4.35 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 91 innings pitched. Analysis: David Kerr

Jung Ho Kang is not in the Pirates lineup on Thursday.

The Pirates continue to play musical infielders in an effort to give everyone plenty of playing time. Jordy Mercer will bat eighth and play shortstop on Thursday night while Aramis Ramirez mans the hot corner. Analysis: David Kerr
