Fantasy Player Updates & News

Update: The Red Sox and DH David Ortiz have agreed on a one-year contract extension for a little more than $15 million.

Albert Pujols went 1-for-5 with a game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning against the Padres on Monday.

Pujols may be off to on of the worst starts of his career, but he managed to steal the show on Monday as he drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. He is now slashing just .228/.280/.420 with eight home runs and 17 RBI through his first 162 at-bats which is very alarming, but there is still plenty of time for him to right the ship so continue starting him on a regular basis. Analysis: Matthew Beck

Jered Weaver allowed just one run on six hits an one walk while striking out seven batters over 6 2/3 innings against the Padres on Monday.

After being the winning pitcher in each of his last three starts Weaver was unable to keep that streak alive on Monday despite a solid effort. He is now 3-4 with a 4.06 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 35:10 K:BB rate through 64 1/3 innings which makes him a deep league start as long as he continues to pitch well into the month of June. Weaver will look to get back in the win column when he takes on the Tigers on Saturday. Analysis: Matthew Beck

Tyson Ross allowed three runs (two earned) on 10 hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over six innings against the Angels on Monday.

Ross has now allowed three runs in each of his last two contests as he continues to have a rougher start to his 2015 campaign compared to last season. He is now sitting 2-4 with a 3.84 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 69:30 K:BB rate through 58 2/3 innings but as long as his strikeouts remain consistent he is a must-start in all fantasy formats. The Padres hurler will look to get back in the win column when he takes on the Pirates on Saturday. Analysis: Matthew Beck

Will Venable went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Monday's loss to the Angels.

Venable is now slashing .293/.361/.467 with three home runs and 10 RBI through 75 at-bats as he continues to see regular at-bats of late. However, he is going to have to prove he can produce over a longer period of time before gaining any fantasy value outside of NL-only leagues.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Alex Guerrero connected on his eighth home run of the season while driving in two runs in Monday's win over the Braves.

Although Guerrero may not have a spot in the everyday starting lineup he still finds a way to contribute to the cause as he is now slashing .309/.337/.679 with eight home runs and 20 RBI through his first 81 at-bats. Fantasy owners will want to continue showing patience with Guerrero and be sure to start him every time he is in the lineup for the Dodgers.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Andre Ethier went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored against the Braves on Monday.

Ethier continues to have himself a solid season as he is now slashing .313/.407/.548 with six home runs and 17 RBI through his first 115 at-bats. As long as he continues to swing a big stick he is someone worth starting in all but the shallowest of league formats.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Kenley Jansen earned his fourth save of the season after tossing a perfect ninth inning against the Braves on Monday.

Jansen remains perfect on the year have now converted all four of his save chances while owning a 9:0 K:BB rate through five innings. Although it is unlikely he will keep up his current pace, he remains a must-start in all fantasy formats now that he is at 100 percent health.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Brett Anderson allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three batters over seven innings against the Braves on Monday.

Despite a solid outing Anderson said after the game that he experienced back tightness in the fifth inning but it was not bad enough to force him out of the game. He is now sitting 2-2 with a 3.47 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 34:11 K:BB rate through his first nine starts which is good enough to make him a consideration in deep league formats. He will look to stay on track when he takes on the Cardinals on Sunday.  Analysis: Matthew Beck
