Update: Texans have traded QB Matt Schaub to the Raiders for a late-round 2014 draft pick, pending a physical.

Josh Johnson threw a 15-pitch simulated game Tuesday.

It's tough to tell how good a guy is doing from only 15 pitches, but he and the Padres think he's good enough to return soon. Expect him back healthy with the ball club for most of September.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Saints placed CB P.J. Williams on season-ending injured reserve with a torn hamstring.

This will be a massive blow for the Saints, as the rookie Williams figured to play a huge role in their defensive rebuilding project this season. In any event, the Saints will have to make due with Brandon Browner and Keenan Lewis as the starting two corners, while losing depth in Williams.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Saints have released Nick Toon.

The emergence of Brandon Coleman has allowed the Saints to move on from Nick Toon, who is not as properly equipped to be a legitimate goal line threat as Coleman is. Without Jimmy Graham in New Orleans, Coleman becomes more of a need for the Saints than Toon.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Dodgers recalled Josh Ravin from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

In this move they have placed him on the 60-day DL, making room for Justin Ruggiano on the 40-man roster.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Dodgers selected the contract of OF Justin Ruggiano.

Ruggiano, in 70 at-bats this season in the bigs, has posted a paltry .214 average with only three RBI to his name. Pass on him during September. Analysis: Dom Murtha

Dodgers recalled P Joe Wieland from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Wieland, in his lone appearance this season, was rocked by the Brewers, but that was in May, so hopefully he has improved himself enough to become an asset for the Dodgers down the stretch.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Sam Fuld is still dealing with back spasms and will be rested.

Fuld's numbers are rotten this season, so him sitting for the next few days will not be a big deal for fantasy owners.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Angels activated Collin Cowgill from the 60-day disabled list.

Cowgill has been out since May and will likely serve as some extra bench depth while the Angels make their playoff push.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Reds designated Dylan Axelrod for assignment.

Axelrod allowed ten earned runs in 12 1/3 major league innings working out of the bullpen. He wasn't much better in Triple-A either, working to a 4.38 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 18 starts. He'll hit he waiver wire. Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Angels designated OF Alfredo Marte for assignment.

Marte slashed .313/.377/.465 in 329 at-bats for Salt Lake so he'll definitely get another look elsewhere. The Angels simply have too many outfielders on their 40-man roster.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein
