FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Update: The Patriots have re-signed WR Julian Edelman, per source.

Patrick Patterson replaces Amir Johnson in the Raptors starting lineup on Friday.

Johnson is on a cold streak right now, and is coming off of a rough game on Tuesday. On the other hand Patterson is playing well right now, so he'll see a larger share of minutes and get the start on Friday. He's a risky but cheap start in daily leagues that could pay off. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Tyson Gillies has agreed to a minor league deal with the the Padres.

Tyson Gillies was a center piece in the Phillies/Mariners Cliff Lee trade, but Gillies has done just about nothing for the Phillies, and was finally released by the frustrated Phillies team after being a massive disappointment. He still had a lot of natural ability, and if the Padres can harness that he can eventually be a fourth outfielder type for the team. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Michael Saunders ended up only having 60-percent of his meniscus removed. His recovery time is 4-to-6 weeks.

Saunders' tear was not as bad as originally believed, and the fact that he had the meniscus trimmed rather than repaired means he will have a quicker recovery time and a higher success rate. Instead of being out until the All Star break in a best case scenario he could be back a couple weeks after Opening Day. He probably will end up on the waiver wire to start the year, and he should be on most owners watch list as he could be a 20-20 threat upon return.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Kevin Garnett (rest) will not play Friday.

The Timberwolves are still trying things out with Garnett. They'd love for him to play more, especially in back-to-back games, but they're apparently not there yet. Look for Gorgui Dieng to get the nod Friday with Garnett returning to the lineup Saturday. Analysis: Howard Bender

Wilson Chandler (groin) will play on Friday.

The Nuggets were almost in trouble had Chandler not been able to dress for Friday. As it is, his thigh issue may still be a bit of a problem, so look for Danilo Gallinari to see some extra time to keep Chandler fresh. Analysis: Howard Bender

Update: Darrell Arthur (knee) will not play Friday.

Consider Arthur day-to-day with the ankle injury, but more importantly, the Nuggets depth is really going to be tested Friday. Look for Kenneth Faried, if he plays, to get the nod at power forward while Joffrey Lauvergne sees an uptick in minutes off the bench. Analysis: Howard Bender

Bojan Bogdanovic (ankle) will not play Friday.

Bogdanovic has missed the last two games and has failed to practice in between either. He can be considered day-to-day, but according to Tim Bontemps of the New York Post, he is likely to miss Saturday's game in Dallas as well. His minutes will simply be redistributed to the rest of the bench. Analysis: Howard Bender

Otto Porter will replace Paul Pierce in Friday's starting lineup.

Porter was starting at shooting guard for Bradley Beal but was recently replaced by Garrett Temple in the starting lineup. He'll now get a chance to start at small forward for Pierce while Rasual Butler and Martell Webster come off the bench.  Analysis: Howard Bender

Coach Erik Spoelstra said Michael Beasley will play Friday.

Beasley's season in China recently came to a close and he signed a 10-day contract with the Heat on Thursday. Udonis Haslem may get the start at power forward again, but Beasley just might be able to garner the majority of playing time if he plays a strong game off the bench. Analysis: Howard Bender

Magic have activated Devyn Marble and Maurice Harkless for Friday's game against the Atlanta Hawks.

With Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier both out Friday, Marble and Harkless will get an opportunity to see some minutes on the court for the Magic. Both will come off the bench. Analysis: Howard Bender

James Jones is in the Cavaliers starting lineup on Friday.

It looks like James Jones will replace LeBron James in the starting lineup Friday and not Mike Miller. That doesn't necessarily mean that he will play more, but it does look like he'll get a solid opportunity to shine. At least for the day. Analysis: Howard Bender

Browns have agreed to terms with Josh McCown on a three-year deal.

While few fantasy owners even like McCown, they can't argue with the fact that he is a definite upgrade to both Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel. The Browns would love for Manziel to take a step forward and claim the starting job for himself, but they will go with McCown if they have to. Without Josh Gordon or any other legitimate receiving threat, however, McCown has very little value heading into the 2015 season. Analysis: Howard Bender

Patrick Beverley (illness) will play on Friday.

After two days of being sick, Beverley will return to the starting lineup Friday and should see his usual 25-30 minutes. Jason Terry will go back to the bench. Analysis: Howard Bender

James Harden (ankle) will play on Friday.

Harden was originally listed as questionable but it looks like he's going to be able to power through. He was banged-up Wednesday and while his scoring was down, he did post 10 assists on the night. He remains a must-start in all season-long formats. He might not offer as much bang for the buck in DFS play though.  Analysis: Howard Bender
