The Panthers have begun contract negotiations with free-agent WR Brandon LaFell.
After missing out on landing Hakeem Nicks, the Panthers are turning their attention to LaFell, who couldn't work out a deal to join the Patriots. LaFell is coming off of the best season of his career, and if he was to re-sign with the Panthers, he would be the No. 1 wideout on the depth chart. ANALYST: Matthew Beck
Jed Lowrie left Monday's game with a thumb injury. He's going back to Houston Tuesday for an MRI.
In all likelihood Jonathan Villar or Marwin Gonzalez will fill in for Lowrie if he misses extended time, but there's an outside chance the first-place Astros call up uber-prospect Carlos Correa for his first major league taste. Correa is murdering the Texas League (Double-A) to the tune of .375/.429/.719 with four home runs and two stolen bases. He's worth a speculative add in competitive leagues until the situation becomes more clear. Astros GM Jeff Luhnow has hinted that he wouldn't be scared to "lift" Correa straight from Double-A at some point. Analysis: Spencer Silva
