Jeff Samardzija has been named the opening day starter.
As it should be. Samardzija has K-per-inning stuff and can dominate any lineup in baseball. He's a strong option as a 3/4 starting pitcher in mixed leagues. Now we are left to wait to see if he's able to work out an extension with the Cubs or if they will ship him out of town. ANALYST: Ray Flowers
Carmelo Anthony says he's going to rehab his knee by getting in the weight room during the All-Star break.
Melo was able to return to the Knicks lineup on Sunday and had himself a very solid game, despite the loss for New York. The plan is for him to play through it in the remaining games ahead of the break and then hit the weight room to build up strength and stability in the ailing knee. Head coach Derek Fisher believes that he will be fine long-term however if it doesn't get better and the Knicks continue to fall farther out of the playoff race in the Eastern conference, New York may have a decision on their hands. Whiteside went to the bench with an ankle injury.
Whiteside injured the ankle or foot on a rebound and came up limping a bit, so with him just recently coming back from a hip injury it's likely a precautionary move to take him out. He was effective in Sunday's loss however with a double-double off the bench behind starter A'mare Stoudemire. More updates to follow once the extent of the injury and timeframe are better known.
