Donte Whitner agrees to 4-year, $28 million deal with the Browns.
The Browns have officially moved on from potential franchise defender T.J. Ward as Whitner slides into Ward's strong safety role. Something tells me that Ward was no longer interested in coming back to Cleveland when he heard Denver was interesting in his services. Whitner is a still a young (28) above-average safety. Whitner will join Joe Haden in the Browns' backfield, and rumors are swirling that the Browns could be in on the Darelle Revis sweepstakes as well. Looks like the Browns are intending to field the best defensive backfield the game has ever seen. ANALYST: Ray Flowers
George Springer went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI in the Astros 6-2 loss to the Tigers on Friday.
Springer has now collected two hits in three straight games which has helped raise his average from .195 to .214 on the season. A concussion sidelined Springer in early May but he has played well since his return, hitting .282 with six runs, two home runs and four RBI. Fantasy owners will have to deal with the low batting average as Springer is once again on pace to rank among the league leaders in strikeouts but he’s already reached double-digit stole bases and could flirt with a 30/30 season given his potential.
