FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Oscar Taveras, who had right ankle surgery last season, is sidelined indefinitely with a tight hamstring in the same leg. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Taveras won't come north with the team if he can't show he can be 100 percent.

Bank on it - Taveras will begin the year in the minors. He's yet to prove capable of remaining on the field, and until he does it's highly unlikely he'll get a ticket to St. Louis. An elite talent, we'll likely be waiting until June to see Taveras in the big leagues. ANALYST: Ray Flowers

Chandler Fenner signed his exclusive-rights free-agent tender.

Fenner recorded just seven tackles in eleven games for the team last season. He will likely just be positional depth the team this season and will see the majority of his action on special teams. Analysis: Colby Conway

Zack Cozart went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer against the Brewers on Monday.

Cozart is quietly hitting .326 on the season, solid numbers for a shortstop in the fantasy world. He has seven hits in his last four games, including two home runs and four RBI. As long as he is hitting, Cozart should be in your lineup, especially with this production coming out of a weak shortstop class. Analysis: Colby Conway

Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and one run scored against the Brewers on Monday.

Votto slipped a few rounds in most drafts, but he has been everything owners have wanted. The power numbers weren’t there in the spring training, but today’s home run was his fifth of the year. His average is sitting at .375 and he now has 12 RBI on the season. Votto looks like the elite player he was before last year’s injury filled season, and owners should continue starting him in all formats. Analysis: Colby Conway

Alex Smith (spleen) was medically cleared for the start of offseason practice.

Smith lacerated his spleen late last season, and it caused him to miss the season finale. He has been cleared to play and was able to work today with his new toy, Jeremy Maclin. Smith is more a game manager than a game changer, and he will be drafted accordingly. Analysis: Colby Conway

Nikola Mirotic favored his left knee after that skirmish with Zaza Pachulia and headed for the locker room.

Pachulia was ejected and rookie sensation Mirotic seems to have injured his knee. He did walk to the locker room on his own power, so early thoughts should be that the injury isn't too serious. Before exiting with the injury, he scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds. Analysis: Colby Conway

Anthony DeSclafani allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out five over eight shutout innings against the Brewers on Monday.

DeSclafani has been hot to start the 2015 campaign. He has a nice 16:4 K/BB ratio so far on the year and he needs to be owned in the majority of formats. He is 2-0 on the year with a dazzling 0.86 ERA, numbers that are worth owning in most formats. He will put his perfect record on the line on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs. Analysis: Colby Conway

Denard Robinson said he has been working on his pass-catching skills in the offseason, lining up as a receiver and running routes.

Robinson is out to show the Jags why he is their top back for the upcoming season. He was a viable force out of the backfield, as well as catching passes. He can do a little bit of everything for fantasy owners, but the fact that Jacksonville has to abandon the run so early in games puts limits on his fantasy value. However, his 4.3 yards per carry average is going to be enticing on draft day, since he does have big play capabilities. Analysis: Colby Conway

Mirza Teletovic (blood clots) is listed as doubtful for Wednesday. Teletovic said it's basically up to the coaching staff when he returns now. He said he feels ready, but is not sure what results would be.

Teletovic is dealing with blood clots, and the team wants to be careful with this injury. His long-term health is more important than rushing him back out there for this playoff series. If he doesn't play in Wednesday's game, Thaddeus Young and Cory Jefferson will see the majority of the minutes at the power forward position. Expect to see some more Mason Plumlee as well. Analysis: Colby Conway

Johnny Manziel reported for the first day of voluntary workouts Monday.

Manziel has completed his rehab program and is looking to be the team's starting quarterback in 2015. There has been speculation about the Browns drafting a quarterback in this draft, but we will have to wait and see. Their selections in the draft will give us a glimpse of what the organization thinks about Manziel, as well as how they feel about him as their starting quarterback. The draft will be a big indicator to us, and to Johnny Football, about his status in Cleveland. Analysis: Colby Conway

Joe Nathan (elbow) threw a full bullpen session Monday.

Nathan was able to throw off a mound on Saturday, but today was his first full bullpen session since suffering the elbow injury. Joakim Soria has been dynamite as the team's closer, and it is quite possible that he returns from the DL as the team's set-up man, not the closer. This is worth monitoring, especially if you own Nathan or Soria. Analysis: Colby Conway
