Eric Bledsoe (knee) will return in the next week. He will play no later than next Wednesday’s home game against Cleveland and no earlier than Sunday at Golden State.
Matt Cain is finally healthy and ready to be in the Giants rotation.
The three-time all-star is finally healthy. He hasn't been able to start more than 15 games in each of the last two seasons. If Cain can get back to the level he was pitching at during the 2012 season, the Giants will have a lethal rotation. Don't forget, they've won the World Series three straight even years. By our calculations after carrying the two -- it's an even year. Cain is a key compenent to the Giants success this year. Analysis: James Grande
Padres will likely not look to trade James Shields until the trade deadline.
Although Shields had a good record during his first year in San Diego, he was very pedestrian. His ERA was just below 4.00 at 3.91 and posted a below average 1.33 WHIP. After a season like that, his trade value can't be very high. San Diego's main strategy is likely to hope Shields pitches well enough to bolster his value. His contract is also going to be hard to move if he's not pitching like a top flight pitcher by the time the trade deadline rolls around. Analysis: James Grande
