Jason Motte ramped (Tommy John surgery) up his throws in a bullpen session this morning.
Motte is still trying to return from Tommy John surgery in April, but in all likelihood he won't return until May which is still putting only a one-year timetable on his recovery. The Cardinals have yet to announce anything regarding his expected return, so don't count on him based on just his hopes.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Scott Kazmir allowed three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk over 5 1/3 innings against the Royals on Friday in Game 2 of the ALDS.
Although far from dominant, Kazmir was solid tonight in his first postseason start since 2009. It was a positive sign for Astros fans, as Kazmir had been very bad lately, posting a 5.89 ERA over his last nine starts. But his success against the Royals came into play tonight – coming into Game 2, Kazmir was 1-1 with a 2.10 ERA and 14:3 K/BB ratio against Kansas City over 21 1/3 innings. This could be a crucial line if the series ends up going the distance. With the Astros trotting out Dallas Keuchel in Game 3 and Collin McHugh in Game 4, Kazmir will need to step up in a huge role in a potential Game 5 scenario. Even though that game would be played in Kansas City – we obviously know how electric the atmosphere would be in an elimination game at Kauffman Stadium – Kazmir would be a hot play in DFS leagues with his outstanding numbers against the Royals.
