UPDATES & NEWS
The Buffalo Bills are unlikely to sign Jairus Byrd before the start of free agency on March 11, and it doesn't appear the franchise tag is in their plans either.
This is not good news for the Bills who were hoping to re-sign Byrd before he hits the open market. With both parties being far apart in negotiations, it is unlikely that they will come to an agreement before the Monday's franchise-tag deadline. The Bills are not expected to use the tag on Byrd which means other teams can come swooping in quickly.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Chad Smith has arrived in camp on Saturday.
Smith was just claimed off waivers from the Tigers on Thursday so he had a couple of days to get his things and head to the A's spring training facility. He's a long shot to make the 25-man roster, but if he can continue to post similar strikeout and walk rates that he did in Double and Triple-A last year, he could get a call-up at some point.
