FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Caron Butler is scheduled to arrive on Sunday but will not be available to play. Butler will join the team for Monday's practice and be in uniform for Tuesday's game.

Update: X-Rays were negative on Zack Cozarts right index finger.

This is obviously good news, though Cozart could still wind up on the disabled list. Kris Negron filled in for Cozart Sunday and should continue if he misses any games. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Steve Pearce was lifted for a pinch hitter in the sixth inning of Sunday's game due to a stomach illness.

Reynaldo Navarro had a single and an RBI pinch-hitting for Pearce. Navarro will likely continue to play second base, at least until Pearce gets over his illness. Jimmy Paredes could see more time at second base as well. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Padres manager Bud Black said reliever Joaquin Benoit's (dead arm) availability is uncertain and that he could be headed to the disabled list.

Benoit is dealing with a dead arm, and the Padres may have to send him to the DL so they can add another bullpen arm. The Padres have some decent bullpen depth, and they should be just fine if Benoit is out for a couple of weeks. Analysis: Steve Pimental

The Brewers placed Brent Leach on the 15-day disabled list.

Don't feel bad if you have never heard of Leach either. He hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2009, and while he will probably get another shot, it shouldn't be with your fantasy team. Analysis: Steve Pimental

The Brewers have signed LHP Michael Kirkman. He will join Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday.

Kirkman was a decent prospect as recently as 2012, but in 106 2/3 big league innings he has a 4.98 ERA. He could be a decent long reliever at some point, but he is irrelevant for fantasy. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Zack Cozart left Sunday's game in Atlanta with an injured finger on his right hand.

Kris Negron replaces Cozart at shortstop. Negron is a career .243/.316/.420 hitter, and has little value even in NL-only leagues. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Bradley Beal was removed from Sunday's playoff game with a leg injury. His return is doubtful

With Beal out the Wizards may not have the luxury of playing Paul Pierce at the four. If the Wizards do elect to go small they could play Ramon Sessions at shooting guard. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Austin Jackson was removed from Sunday's game with a leg injury.

Justin Ruggiano will replace Jackson in center field. Ruggiano usually only starts against lefties, but he may have to play everyday if Jackson misses any time.  Analysis: Steve Pimental

Tom Wilhelmsen will throw a simulated game Wednesday and then likely one more rehab game.

Wilhelmsen should slot into a middle relief role in Seattle. He is important for their bullpen depth, but not important for fantasy. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Red Sox move Ryan Hanigan put on the 60-day disabled list.

Hanigan will make way on the 40-man roster for Luis Jimenez. He was expected to miss roughly 60 days anyway, so this should not change his timetable much. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Red Sox claimed IF Luis Jimenez off waivers from the Brewers.

Now that the Brewers are starting to get some of their players back healthy there was no place for Jimenez on the big league roster. Jimenez has batted .218/.255/.269 in 167 career plate appearances. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Hyun-jin Ryu will throw a bullpen session in Milwaukee on Monday. His next step will be throwing to hitters later in the week.

If all goes well this week Ryu could begin a rehab assignment in a week or two. Ryu has dealt with should issues at times throughout the last couple of seasons, and even after he does return he could have an increased risk of another injury. He should be owned in all leagues when healthy, but there are probably higher-upside players you can stash on your DL. Analysis: Steve Pimental
