The Ravens are expected to pick up the 2015 option for CB Jimmy Smith.

With 59 total tackles and 2 interceptions, he is a decent defensive back. Remember he was assigned to cover Calvin Johnson when the Ravens took on the Lions, and he performed as well as any corner all season against Megatron.ANALYST: Ivar G. Anderson

Ian Desmond was hit on the left wrist with a pitch but will try to stay in the game.

This is news obviously worth watching as his wrist could swell up on him over the next inning and force him out. This news will likely impact daily league players more given their need for his production. Seasonal players too should monitor his status. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Francisco Cervelli was ejected from Thursday's game for arguing balls and strikes.

This tough news for daily league players who spent on Cervelli tonight as he fails to score you points and in some leagues earned you a negative with his strikeout. Chris Stewart is catching in his place following the ejection. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Will Hill has signed a two-year contract with the Ravens.

Hill played in 10 games for the Ravens in 2014, totaling 42 tackles with one interception. He entered the league in 2012 and spent his first two years with the Giants. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Kelby Tomlinson went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored against the Cubs on Thursday.

Since his Aug. 3 call up, Tomlinson has shined for the Giants, proving his worth with a .346 average and 11 RBI in just 52-at bats. It’s too early to fully tell Tomlinson’s fantasy worth, and with 12 strikeouts to just three walks he is showing minor growing pains. But monitor him to see how he does within the coming weeks. Of course, with Joe Panik very near to a return, Tomlinson’s value as an everyday second baseman will all but be thrown by the wayside. Analysis: Zack Carpenter

Marlon Byrd went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored and one walk against the Cubs on Thursday.

Byrd continued his sheer dominance of Dan Haren, belting his fourth homer off the pitcher to raise his slugging percentage to .455. Byrd has shown some solid power this season with 21 bombs, but playing in Cincinnati for so long this season completely negated most RBI chances, as he has roped just 48 on the season. If you are looking for a power bat with some pop, Byrd is your guy. But with just a .238 average and 111 strikeouts to just 26 walks, do not look for anything more than a couple bombs out of him. Analysis: Zack Carpenter

Dan Haren allowed five runs on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks over 6 1/3 innings in a loss against the Giants on Thursday.

Haren has been absolutely atrocious since coming to the Cubs at the trade deadline. He is 1-2 while allowing 18 runs on 31 hits over 25 2/3 innings over five starts, while also giving up eight homers, bringing his total to an NL “best” 29 this season. He was pitching decent in Miami, but the Windy City is not treating him well. Do not look for him in any type of spot until he proves he can pitch well for the Cubs. His next start comes Tuesday at home against the Reds.  Analysis: Zack Carpenter

Madison Bumgarner tossed six innings of two-hit ball and allowed one run with 12 strikeouts and two walks in a win against the Cubs on Thursday.

Bumgarner was mowing the Cubs down, on his way to his third 5-0 month in his career. After ending July by allowing six runs against the Rangers, Bumgarner has come back with a vengeance in August, posting a 5-0 record with a 1.43 ERA and 53 strikeouts to just four walks over 37 2/3 innings. He is on an incredible run right now and no matter who he matches up against, he is a must start. He takes the mound again on Tuesday in L.A. against the Dodgers. Analysis: Zack Carpenter

Orioles optioned RHP Jorge Rondon to Triple-A Norfolk.

Rondon appeared in two games for the Orioles, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He will likely be recalled once rosters expand in September. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Jets have waived rookie QB Jake Heaps.

Heaps was waived as the Jets signed veteran backup QB Josh Johnson to a contract. Heaps was signed as an undrafted free-agent out of the University of Miami but was a long shot to make the team. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Jets announce they have signed QB Josh Johnson.

Johnson has been in the league since 2008 being used primarily as a backup QB. He last played in a game for the Bengals in 2013 and spent 2014 with the 49ers but did not see the field. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Steven Souza had X-rays on his broken hand and he has resumed swinging.

Souza has been on the DL since the beginning of August with a broken hand but it's good news that he has begun swinging as it means a return to the Rays lineup could be coming soon. It has been an up and down season for Souza who already had one prior DL stint but has also been productive at the plate when he's making contact, hitting .214 with 47 runs, 15 home runs, 34 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Souza has struck out however nearly 1/3 of the times he is at bat which has limited his production and frustrated owners. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

There's still no timetable for the return of first-round pick Breshad Perriman (knee).

The Ravens WR group is thin with Steve Smith Sr. topping the depth charts and Kamar Aiken and Marlon Brown likely stepping into the No.2 role with Perriman still sidelined.  Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Cubs acquired Fernando Rodney from the Mariners.

The Cubs bullpen is chalked full of former great closers who are having just miserable seasons in 2015. With Rodney he entered the season after a great 2014 where he saved 48 games but after converting just 16-of-22 save opportunities the Mariners removed him from the closer's role. OVerall in 2015 Rodney is 5-5 with a 5.68 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Cubs designated Brian Schlitter for assignment.

Schlitter was designated for assignment to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Fernando Rodney who was just acquired by the Cubs from the Mariners. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Cubs optioned Zac Rosscup to Triple-A Iowa.

Rosscup was optioned to make room for the newly acquired Fernando Rodney. Rosscup will likely be recalled once rosters expand in September. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba
