FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney clocked "unofficial" forty times of 4.47 and 4.48 at the NFL Scouting Combine, though his official time was later announced at 4.53.

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network said that Clowney "is on another planet." We are guessing Clowney earned a "rare" grade, and many other evaluators will give the same designation. Calvin Johnson, Ndamukong Suh, and Andrew Luck are three recent prospects to earn the same designation by some scouts.ANALYST: Drew Phelps

Cubs pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada, who had been slowed because of a tight left hamstring, threw a live batting-practice session on Saturday and passed all the tests.

Wada's early spring workouts have been hampered by a hamstring injury but he appears to be past that now. He'll fight for a rotation spot with the club but may end up as a reliever in Chicago. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Jonathan Pettibone, (shoulder) will throw his third bullpen session on Sunday. He is expected to remain in Clearwater once the season starts to make a few starts before he joins Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The 24-year old is a bit behind schedule following shoulder surgery in June, but while he is still tight and sore at times, he should begin to ramp up his workouts soon. He'll get settled in the minors to start the year but there's a very good chance he's in the MLB rotation by the All Star break. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones confirmed to FOX Sports Southwest that the team indeed expects to apply the franchise tag to wide receiver Dez Bryant by Monday's deadline.

The Cowboys won't be letting Bryant get away, and though Dez will be bummed out by the use of the tag, it's looking like that will be the most likely scenario. We should find out for sure by Monday at the latest. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Marlins are very impressed by how Nick Masset is throwing in camp.

The Marlins took a flier on Masset, who enjoyed some relative success a couple of years ago before falling into the abyss of volatile relievers, and he has looked very good thus far in bullpens. The 32-year old hops to break camp with the club and could end up eating some innings in the bullpen for Miami.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Kris Humphries (groin) will not play Saturday night.

Humphries was injured on Wednesday, keeping him out of Friday's game. He'll also miss Saturday's game and his availability for the Wizards' next game, on Tuesday, is in doubt. Kevin Seraphin will be the main beneficiary of Humphries absence, but he's still not worth a look in fantasy league, Analysis: Ben Diamond

Paul Pierce will play Saturday night.

Pierce missed two straight games due to a knee injury, but it was considered to be relatively minor and he'll be back on the court for Saturday's game. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Bradley Beal (leg) will play Saturday night.

Beal has been out since February 7th, eight games, due to a leg injury, but is back on Saturday. The Wizards may take it slow with Beal on his first game back, but he should be good to go by next week.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Justin Masterson threw the ball free and easy Saturday in his first shot against hitters, and he said after that it was a positive step toward reestablishing himself. Masterson was plagued by injuries last season.

Masterson has one of the best pitches in the majors, a signature sinker that can be unhittable when it's on. The issue is that it was rarely "on" last season, as lower body injuries, and for that matter upper body ones as well, ruined his 2014 after a strong year the season before. Masterson will hopefully start the year healthy and could have a nice bounceback season. Analysis: Ben Diamond

The NBA has suspended Golden State's Festus Ezeli for one game after an altercation with Tyler Hansbrough Friday night in Toronto.

This was expected, after the two players scrapped following Ezeli pushing Hansbrough in the throat. Presumably the act of initiating the brawl led to the suspension for the Warrior backup center.  Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Jose Calderon (Achilles) will not play Saturday.

He didn't play Friday at Detroit, and will now miss a second consecutive game. Langston Galloway, Shane Larkin and Alexey Shved are the likely candidates to pick up his minutes. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
