Anquan Boldin and the 49ers are closing in on deal to keep Boldin in San Francisco, per sources.
While the return of Michael Crabtree signified Boldin's end as the team's No. 1 receiver, the 49ers would be wise to keep him and have him complete the 1-2 punch they've long-needed at the position. Last season, Boldin, despite being blanketed by double-coverage for the majority of the season led the team with 85 catches for 1,179 yards and seven touchdowns.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Phillies recalled Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies seem ready to commit to Asche as their new starting left fielder which certainly gums up the outfield configuration for veterans like Ben Revere, Grady Sizemore and Jeff Francoeur. It also displaces Darin Ruf. While they may be happy with the defensive work he did down in the minors, Asche's bat never really heated up, so the team is still going to have some serious offensive woes. This plan may have looked good on paper, but it should be re-visited in a couple of weeks to see how things are panning out. Analysis: Howard Bender
