Fantasy Player Updates & News

Brandon Jennings was benched in the 4th quarter of the Pistons 115-107 home victory over the Hawks.

Not sure how much this will effect Jennings as he was tweeting about how he "love(s) talking about chicks I almost had, w/ the homies," after the game. From a fantasy perspective Jennings had a solid stat line as he finished with a double-double of 12 points and 14 assists with just one turnover. Now would be a time to try and buy low on Jennings if you can fade his poor shooting percentage (38 FG% on the season).ANALYST: Michael Pichan

Hunter Strickland was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.

Strickland was called up Saturday for the doubleheader but immediately sent back down. He replaces Casey McGehee on the 25-man roster and should be buried on the bullpen depth chart where he belongs going forward. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Steven Souza Jr. has been diagnosed with a sprained left wrist.

This will likely land Souza on the disabled list. If he does not head to the DL there would have to be some concern the wrist injury will sap his power. Joey Butler replaced Souza Sunday and could see considerable playing time while Souza is out. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Sonny Gray left Sunday's game after just 67 pitches and was diagnosed with a right ankle contusion.

This certainly does not sound too serious, though if the injury is painful it could affect Gray's ability to push off the mound and generate power. A DL stint could be forthcoming. The A's could get Drew Pomeranz back next week, and if Gray is out that would keep Kendall Graveman in the rotation a bit longer.  Analysis: Steve Pimental

Brandon Morrow was encouraged by his bullpen on Sunday. He threw all of his pitches, 45 total and will now throw a simulated game Wednesday or Thursday.

After Morrow gets his pitch count up he will likely need a couple of rehab starts. He is probably still two or three weeks away from returning, and Odrisamer Despaigne should stay in the rotation until Morrow returns. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Marco Gonzales will miss his next start with Triple-A Memphis, initially scheduled for Monday, after again feeling tightness around the left pectoral muscle while doing his flat ground throwing work on Saturday.

Gonzales had a golden opportunity to grab a rotation spot after Adam Wainwright went down, but injuries and ineffectiveness have prevented that from happening. If you were holding onto Gonzales in a deep league you can go ahead and drop him. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Josh Johnson experienced some soreness after his bullpen session Tuesday. He didn't throw on Saturday as originally scheduled.

Johnson is attempting to come back from his second Tommy John surgery, so any setback could be a very big deal. There is no reason to roster Johnson outside of deep NL-only leagues; even if this setback is minor there is no guarantee he is effective when he finally does return. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Manager Bruce Bochy confirmed Matt Duffy is his everyday third baseman.

After Casey McGehee was designated for assignment the Giants were left with Matt Duffy and Joaquin Arias as options at third base. Duffy is batting .299/.330/.402 this season, and while he should continue to play third base as long as he hits, the Giants could be prime candidates to trade for a third baseman if they can remain in the playoff race. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Wesley Wright (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on Sunday.

Wright hasn't pitched in the big leagues since April 10, and he probably wasn't going to return before 60 days anyway. Wright could pick up a few holds once he returns, but there is no reason for anybody to worry about him until that happens. Analysis: Steve Pimental

RHP Bronson Arroyo is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

It is anybody's guess why Bronson Arroyo is still even in the league. He struck out fewer than five batters per nine innings in 2014, making him useless outside of NL-only leagues. Arroyo is probably better than Josh Collmenter and Jeremy Hellickson at this point, but there is no upside there. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Yasmani Grandal (concussion) will play Minor League games before coming off the disabled list.

Grandal could easily play in a couple of minor league games and still come off the DL when he is eligible Saturday, but that is no guarantee. You should probably try to hold onto Grandal even in shallow leagues, as he has easily been a top-10 catcher to this point. When Grandal does appear in a minor league game we will know he is likely one or two days away from returning. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Joel Peralta (shoulder) has started playing catch.

Peralta still has a long way to go, but this is a good first step. The Dodgers bullpen has been pretty terrible this season and barring a trade Peralta should step right into an eighth-inning role when he does return. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Jordan Lyles (sprained big toe) may not make Colorado's next road trip.

The Rockies play in Cincinnati and Philadelphia before returning home June 1, meaning Lyles would likely miss one turn in the rotation. David Hale allowed two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings in game 2 of Colorado's doubleheader Saturday, and he would be the obvious choice to replace Lyles Friday at Philadelphia. Hale would be a nice upside play if he does make that start. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Casey McGehee has been designated for assignment.

The Giants gave McGehee nearly two months to snap out of his funk at the plate, but it wasn't to be. He will probably be back in the big leagues with some team, but there isn't much fantasy value in a career .261 hitter with 15 home runs total in his last 1161 plate appearances. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Matt Holliday has been scratched from Sunday's lineup with a left forearm contusion.

Mark Reynolds will bat seventh and play left field with Holliday out. This injury probably will not land Holliday on the disabled list, but it could keep him out most of the week. Reynolds is really only startable against lefties at this point in his career, and he could give way to Jon Jay if Jay returns before Holliday. Analysis: Steve Pimental
