Curtis Granderson is due to hit cleanup, behind David Wright this season.

Matt Holliday may return this season.

Holliday re-injured the quad muscle that held him out for six weeks earlier this season and the process to get back to the field is expected to be a lengthy one. There's a chance they get him back at some point in September, but the Cardinals are making plans right now to be without him. Analysis: Howard Bender

Drew Smyly (shoulder) will make his second rehab start Friday night for High-A Charlotte.

Smyly is scheduled for four innings or 60 pitches, whichever comes first. He was beaten up in his first rehab appearance but has a long way to go still. For now, the team is looking to build up his velocity and command, so the actual results are negligible at this time. The Rays will worry about those results when he is in the latter part of his rehab which won't come until mid-August. Analysis: Howard Bender

Tim Hudson has lost his spot in the Giants rotation.

With the acquisition of Mike Leake from the Reds, the Giants had to clear out a spot in their rotation and Hudson's recent performances has left him as the low-man on the totem pole. He'll land in the bullpen for now, but considering the injury history of Jake Peavy, Hudson could be called upon further down the road. Analysis: Howard Bender

Orioles designated Bud Norris for assignment.

With the recent acquisition of Gerardo Parra, the Orioles needed to make room on the roster. Given Norris' demotion to mop-up duty in the bullpen, he is obviously an expendable arm. We may have seen the last of him in an Orioles uniform now. Analysis: Howard Bender

Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith said Friday that Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback.

Thank you for reiterating what you and everyone else has been muttering since draft day, Lovie. Winston has a lot of work to do to ensure some job security down the road because while he is being named the starting quarterback, things certainly change once the season opens and the games start to count. Watch closely during training camp here as the values of Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson are directly tied to Winston's performance. If he struggles, they all struggle. Analysis: Howard Bender

Devon Travis has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Travis suffered a strained shoulder earlier in the week and thought he could play through it with a cortisone shot. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case and he's going to need to hit the DL once again. The Jays have patched it up before, so expect to see Ryan Goins and a potential call-up for Muneori Kawasaki.  Analysis: Howard Bender

Browns WR Dwayne Bowe said there's no doubt in his mind Terrelle Pryor will make team. Said he's never seen a QB make the transition so well.

Well, the competition for the roster spots among wide receivers isn;t too fierce here on the Browns, so while Bowe's enthusiasm is encouraging, it doesn't seem like Pryor has much in the way of competition. Even if he makes the team, his contributions to the fantasy community are going to be very limited. Analysis: Howard Bender

Demaryius Thomas is not limited at practice early on as the team gauges his fitness.

The team is just being cautious with Thomas at first as they don;t want him to pull a groin or a hamstring here in camp after his recent "holdout." He is just fine and remains a top-three wide receiver this season. Analysis: Howard Bender

Junior Galette is signing a one-year deal in Washington.

The Redskins are taking a chance here that Galette may not even play ion 2015 depending on how suspensions are handed down. A dominant pass-rusher for the Saints, Galette was arrested on a domestic violence charge back in January. Those charges were dropped, but then a video of him using a belt to hit a woman while they were on the beach together surfaced and the Saints opted to just cut bait immediately. The Skins are getting a heck of a football player, but he needs to straighten out his personal problems before he can really be set free on the field.  Analysis: Howard Bender

Adam Duvall has been assigned to Triple-A Louisville.

The Reds picked up Duvall from the Giants in the Mike Leake deal and were expected to send him down to the farm. Duvall has solid power potential but with Joey Votto and Todd Frazier entrenched at the corners, there's no room for the youngster. He could see some outfield work down at Louisville, but his contributions on the major league level will remain minimal for now. Analysis: Howard Bender

Cullen Jenkins says he has spoken to Jason Pierre-Paul. Says he seems in "good spirits," but declines to elaborate further.

Pierre-Paul has basically gone into hiding while he tries to work his way back from a fireworks mishap in which he sustained severe hand injuries, including the loss of his index finger. He refuses to sign the tender the Giants gave him until he can pass the physical. The problem is how long it will take him to get to where he can pass it. The situation remains unchanged and unresolved. Analysis: Howard Bender

Cardinals acquire Jonathan Broxton from the Brewers.

No word yet as to what the Brewers are receiving in this deal, but given Broxton's 5.89 ERA and 1.39 WHIP this season, it's hard to imagine the Cardinals were giving up too much. Broxton will join the relief corps, but he'll remain in line behind Kevin Siegrist and Seth Manness with regard to closing opportunities should Trevor Rosenthal falter. Analysis: Howard Bender

Timberwolves and Lorenzo Brown agree to a reworked deal. He will be there for training camp.

After a strong showing in the Summer League in which he averaged 14.2 points 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists over 27 minutes per game, the Timberwolves seemed more than happy to work something out with him and keep him in Minnesota. He'll back up Ricky Rubio, but given Rubio's injury history, Brown should see plenty of minutes come his way this season. Analysis: Howard Bender
