Corey Dickerson was scratched Wednesday because of reoccurring lower back tightness.
This is not news any Dickerson owners wanted to see as we approach opening day. Dickerson is a popular early round pick following his breakout 2014 campaign where he hit .312 with 74 runs, 24 home runs, 76 RBI and eight stolen bases over 131 games. While he was scratched a precautionary measure many fantasy players know that back problems can linger throughout the season and the word reoccurring is never a good thing when talking about an injury concern. Red Sox announce that Christian Vazquez will undergo Tommy John surgery on Thursday.
This is disappointing news for Vazquez who was slated to be the Red Sox starting catcher as he entered his first full season in the majors. Even more damaging to Vazquez is the fact that Blake Swihart who is the No.1 ranked catching prospect in baseball is playing at the Triple-A level for the Red Sox this season and will likely end up surpassing him on the depth chart while he recovers from Tommy John. To enter the season Ryan Hanigan will likely see the majority of starts behind the plate for the Red Sox. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba
