FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Kendall Marshall ties career-high with 17 assists to go with 14 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field, including 2-for-7 from downtown, seven rebounds, and a steal in a losing effort to the Thunder Thursday night.

Marshall has not yet played enough games to qualify to be counted among statistical leaders, but his 9.2 assists per game (coming into Thursday's contest) would be the second best in the NBA behind Chris Paul's 11.1 per game. Marshall has reached double-digit dimes in 14 of his 25 games this season, including in three of his last four.ANALYST: Michael Pichan

Dodgers recalled Daniel Coulombe from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Coulombe is sporting a 1.74 ERA with a 16:4 K:BB over 10 1/3 innings for the RedHawks. He'll join the Dodgers bullpen which is apparently loaded with lots of interchangeable parts. Analysis: Howard Bender

Red Sox recall INF Luis Jimenez from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Jimenez was just picked up off waivers from the Brewers Sunday and manager John Farrell want to use him as a utility infielder. He'll work behind Brock Holt for the time being and won't have any value in fantasy leagues.  Analysis: Howard Bender

Mark Teixeira is not in the Yankees starting lineup on Monday.

Teixeira is just 4-for-19 (.211) against Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey, so he'll take a seat for Monday's action. Garrett Jones, who is 6-for-16 (.375) against him will get the start. Analysis: Howard Bender

Red Sox have optioned P Dalier Hinojosa to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Hinojosa was brought up to provide bullpen depth last week and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. He'll head back down for the time being as the team is bringing up Luis Jimenez to provide infield depth. Analysis: Howard Bender

Ryan Flaherty (groin) is batting second for Double-A Bowie on Monday.

Flaherty will play a few games at Bowie before the Orioles decide how much more rehab time he needs. They could decide to bring him back up this weekend if everything goes well over the next couple of days. Analysis: Howard Bender

J.J. Hardy (shoulder) is batting third for Double-A Bowie on Monday.

Where he is batting in the order means nothing. The fact that he's beginning his rehab assignment does. Hardy is expected to play three or four games at Bowie and then the Orioles will decide on his next step in rehab which would likely be a move to Triple-A. Analysis: Howard Bender

Josh Hamilton hit three grounders to first and also struck out in his extended spring debut on Monday.

The Rangers will work Hamilton at extended spring training for a little while and then send him out on a rehab assignment. He is still expected to return around late-May. Analysis: Howard Bender

The Bills announced that they have signed DE Alex Carrington.

Carrington started off with the Bills in 2010 and returns now after spending a year with the Rams. He will return to his role as a back-up defensive lineman and special teams player. Analysis: Howard Bender

Russell Martin is not in the Blue Jays starting lineup on Monday.

Martin has started the last four games behind the plate, so he'll just get a routine day off here. Josh Thole will handle the work behind the dish Monday. Analysis: Howard Bender

Padres designate catcher Wil Nieves for assignment.

The Padres want to give prospect Austin Hedges an opportunity to work at the big league level, so the 37-year old veteran will be put out to pasture. He didn't have any fantasy value before, so it's not like it can get any worse. Analysis: Howard Bender

Padres officially recall catcher Austin Hedges from Triple-A El Paso.

Hedges is slashing .324/.392/.521 over 79 plate appearances for Triple-A Tuscon this year. The Padres would like to give him a shot as Derek Norris' primary back-up rather than stick with 37-year old Wil Nieves. This is more of a learning experience for Hedges, so there's no need to add him to your fantasy team. Analysis: Howard Bender
