Kendall Marshall ties career-high with 17 assists to go with 14 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field, including 2-for-7 from downtown, seven rebounds, and a steal in a losing effort to the Thunder Thursday night.

Marshall has not yet played enough games to qualify to be counted among statistical leaders, but his 9.2 assists per game (coming into Thursday's contest) would be the second best in the NBA behind Chris Paul's 11.1 per game. Marshall has reached double-digit dimes in 14 of his 25 games this season, including in three of his last four.ANALYST: Michael Pichan

Jeff Bianchi was outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket Saturday and has elected to become a free agent.

Bianchi was limited to just a single pinch running appearance with Boston before being sent out. He will look to catch on with another club where he has a better chance to make it to the majors and contribute. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Lavonte David could receive a long-term extension between now and the start of training camp.

David is the best linebacker on the Tampa roster. He may not rack up a ton of tackles due to the defensive scheme the Bucs employ, but it is hard to argue with his tackle numbers. The Buccaneers would be wise to lock him up with a long-term deal. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Shin-Soo Choo is not in the Rangers starting lineup on Saturday.

Choo should be back in the lineup Sunday. This is his first time on the bench in May, and Delino DeShields will cover left with Josh Hamilton handling right against the Red Sox Saturday. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Dodgers optioned OF Chris Heisey to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Heisey was deemed expendable to make room for Yasmani Grandal to return to the roster. Heisey has been with the Dodgers three times this season, but has seen limited action with just nine at bats in five games. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Dodgers activated C Yasmani Grandal from the seven-day concussion disabled list.

Grandal will catch and hit sixth Saturday. The Dodgers are keeping three catchers on the roster presently, which hints that Grandal will likely see some days off as he comes back from his concussion. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Rangers designate INF Tommy Field for assignment.

Field was dfa'd to make room for the promotion of Alex "Chi Chi" Gonzalez. Gonzalez is making the start Saturday against the Boston Red Sox and Wade Miley. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Rangers purchase contract of RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Alex Gonzalez was scratched from his expected Thursday start, so this is somewhat expected. He will get the start Saturday against the Red Sox. He is being slated for more than just a spot start, but has not exactly blown the doors off at Triple-A this season, posting a 4.15 ERA and an underwhelming 26:19 K/BB ratio in eight starts. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Festus Ezeli (sick) did not practice on Saturday.

An illness held the backup center out of practice. He has proven a capable force off the bench with Marreese Speight suffering a strained calf, although there are indications that Speight will be back to action when the finals begin. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Yankees recalled OF Ramon Flores from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre.

Slade Heathcott is going DL with a grade 2 quadriceps strain and opens the door for Flores to see his first major league action. He should see some action in left field, with Brett Gardner sliding over to center certain nights.  Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Grant Balfour said he is definitely not considering retirement and is still looking to pitch in the majors.

Earlier reports had surfaced regarding Balfour and a potential decision to hang up his cleats. Instead, he will continue to seek out employment and extend his career. Given his declining fastball velocity and lack of control, that may not be a promising direction for the veteran to follow. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Mike Moustakas is not in the Royals starting lineup on Saturday.

Although he is hitting lefties well this season, the presence of southpaw Tsuyoshi Wada on the rubber for the Cubs Saturday will give Moustakas a night off. Christian Colon will play third and hit eighth Saturday. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Eric Hosmer is not in the Royals starting lineup on Saturday.

Hosmer will be replaced at first by Kendrys Morales, who will hit cleanup against the Cubs. The lefty Tsuyoshi Wada taking the mound in Chicago has something to do with Hosmer's first time off this season. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Bryce Harper has been scratched from Saturday's starting lineup with a sore back.

That will put a big dent in the National offense Saturday. Still, best to address any minor issues immediately rather than risk losing one of the hottest players in all of baseball with an aggravation of small problem. Harper was hit in the back Friday by a Tony Cingrani fastball. This marks his first non-start of the season. In his place, Clint Robinson will play right field and hit fifth. Analysis: Ivar G.
