FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Dwyane Wade (migraine) will play Wednesday against the Warriors barring a last minute setback.

Angel Pagan (neck) is taking live batting practice Saturday. He was held out on Friday.

Pagan had surgery last September, and is reportedly now at 100%, will have occasional time off this spring to keep him fresh. He last played a full slate of games in 2012, but has been productive when on the field for the Giants. Look for the 33-year old to play about 100 games again this season. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Luis Cruz is still dealing with swelling in his pitching Hand. He jammed it while fielding ground balls Friday.

Cruz made the move to Triple-A last season, but only started five games at that level. Expect him to return to that level to begin the season, although if he keeps racking up the strikeouts, he could easily find himself in Houston this season. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Clayton Kershaw will start Thursday's exhibition game for the Dodgers.

And all eyes will be on the 2015 NL Cy Young and MVP winner, although he has had an uneventful off-season. Expect him to throw two to three innings, depending on his efficiency just to get his feet wet in the spring. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Jesse Chavez who will start Game 2 of the Athletics' Cactus League game Wednesday against the Giants, is throwing a bullpen session on Saturday.

Chavez is a good bet to open the seson as part of the Oakland starting staff, with Jarrod Parker and A.J. Griffin unlikely to be ready for Opening Day. He has a really good chance to be the fifth starter once the season starts. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Odubel Herrera will bat leadoff for the Phillies on Sunday.

The Phillies like his bat, which is why they made him a Rule 5 pick from Texas. He figures to play all three outfield positions as well as second base this spring. He will likely be a bench player out of camp if he can hit this spring. He did show some power development in the Venezuelan Winter League, but it remains to be seen if that is something that moves forward for him or not. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Joel Peralta (shoulder) is scheduled to throw bullpen session Monday.

The reports are conflicting about whether Peralta will be available out of the pen to open the season. Latest word from Dodger mamager Don Mattingly is that the team is expecting him to be ready to start the season. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Update: Chris Sale suffered an avulsion fracture on the lateral side of his right foot in an accident at his home Friday. He'll be out three weeks.

Well that's a huge bummer for those who have protected Sale, but not the worst news in the world. Being out three weeks means that he'll miss most of spring training and likely open the year on the DL as he catches up. He probably won't miss more than two or three starts come April though. Analysis: Howard Bender

Erik Bedard will start the Dodgers' Cactus League opener Wednesday.

The 35-yar old lefty is on a minor league deal so the team will just take an early look to see if there's anything worthwhile left. He is not expected to make the 25-man roster and if by some freak chance he does, it will be in a mop-up/long-relief role. Analysis: Howard Bender

Padres Manager Bud Black announces that Jason Lane will start Wednesday's Cactus League opener.

The Padres are just trying to get an early look at what Lane has to offer. The results are expected to be on the underwhelming side as the 38-year old lefty isn't expected to be anything more than arm depth at the Triple-A level. Analysis: Howard Bender

Chris Sale reportedly suffered a foot injury. The White Sox will release a statement shortly.

No word on how he injured himself or the extent of it just yet. The White Sox will be very careful to ensure that he is properly taken care of and hopefully still on-track for Opening Day. Updates are coming soon. Analysis: Howard Bender

Hyun-Jin Ryu will pitch again on Monday.

He'll likely take one of, if not both, the weekend days off to rest his back and then start up next week. Again, this is not something with which to be concerned. Ryu should be just fine for the season and should be drafted accordingly. Analysis: Howard Bender

Barry Zito will get his first start of the spring Thursday.

It seems tedious to have to update Zito as no one in the fantasy community would ever trust this guy in their regular lineup. Still, he's making a go of it this spring and we'll bring you all the gory details. Analysis: Howard Bender

Rusney Castillo is behind others in the competition to bat leadoff, according to manager John Farrell.

Apparently Mookie Betts, Brock Holt and Shane Victorino are also vying for the leadoff spot, though it's likely to come down to Castillo or Victorino since neither Betts nor Holt are penciled in for a regular starting position. Sure, they could bat leadoff during an occasional start, but only Castillo and Victorino seem to be the guys with starting jobs at this moment. Manager John Farrell has a whole lot of juggling to do this spring. Analysis: Howard Bender
