Royals have placed Emilio Bonifacio on unconditional release waivers. He will have 48 hours to be claimed.

Bonifacio can play multiple positions, and he's got just enough of a bat that he would be of note in the fantasy game because of the wheels that he's got. Keep an eye on where he ends up. If he lands in a spot where he's going to be given substantial playing time, he could produce copious amounts of steals.ANALYST: Ray Flowers

Athletics announce they have recalled Chris Bassitt from Triple-A Nashville for Tuesday's start.

Sonny Gray was supposed to start Tuesday's game for the A's however he has come down with a cold. Bassitt will receive the spot start in his place and will pitch against the Rockies, he has five previous appearances for Oakland this season, none of them starts. Analysis: Matt Selz

Marlins activate Bryan Morris from the 15-day disabled list.

Morris had been out since early June with a lower back strain. The veteran righty reliever will rejoin the Marlins bullpen options in the midst of a solid season in which he is 3-1 in 28 appearance with a 3.95 ERA and 24 K's in 27 1/3 innings. Analysis: Matt Selz

Justin Nicolino has been optioned to Triple-A New Orleans.

With Bryan Morris returning from the DL there was no longer a roster spot for the rookie call-up. He pitched admirably in his two starts giving up five earned over 11 innings. Look for Nicolino to get another chance later this season once another roster spot opens up. Analysis: Matt Selz

Padres place INF Cory Spangenberg (left knee contusion) on the 15-day disabled list.

A couple of weeks of rest appears to be the remedy for Spangenberg's ailing knee. Spangenberg took over second base from the struggling Jedd Gyorko and has made an offensive improvement for that position. I would expect him to regain his starting role once he is fully healthy and ready to return. Analysis: Matt Selz

Padres recall INF Jedd Gyorko from Triple-A El Paso.

Gyorko will fill in at second for the injured Corey Spangenberg as he heads to the DL. Gyorko was sent down a couple of weeks ago after a very rough start to the season for the Padres. During his stint in Triple-A he appears to have gotten somethings worked out as he's hit .279 with four homers, 9 RBIs, and 8 R in just 16 games. In 46 games with the big club this season he's hitting .210 with two home runs, 11 RBI, and 9 runs scored.  Analysis: Matt Selz

Cardinals recalled Marcus Hatley from Triple-A Memphis.

Hatley is being recalled to fill the roster spot left open by Matt Belisle as he goes to the DL. Hatley is a 27-year-old righty who, with his first appearance, will make his major league debut. In 27 appearances for Memphis, Hatley is 4-2 with three saves and 1.69 ERA over 37 1/3 innings. Analysis: Matt Selz

Matt Belisle (elbow) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Right elbow inflammation is the cause of the DL stay for the 35-year-old reliever. Belisle was having a terrific season for the red birds, racking up 12 holds and 3.00 ERA over 30 IP this season. It is unclear when the Cards expect the relieve back at this point. Analysis: Matt Selz

Update: Sonny Gray was scratched Tuesday with an illness.

A's fans will rejoice in the fact that it was not anything more serious than Gray being sick. Expect Gray to be back and ready for his next turn in the rotation. Analysis: Matt Selz

GM Brian Cashman says the Yankees are not considering removing CC Sabathia from the rotation.

A 3-8 record on the year and a troubling 5.65 ERA is what is bringing up the questions about Sabathia's stay in the rotation. The Yankees briefly went to a six man rotation with Nova coming back from the DL, but have decided to move Adam Warren out to the pen, where he was dominating last season, and keep Sabathia in the rotation. Sabathia's last start was solid but no run support did not help his cause. It will be interesting to see what New York does going forward and whether they seek a starter at the trade deadline. Analysis: Matt Selz

Michael Morse has a setback in his rehab and will return to Miami after tweaking his back.

Morse was expected back from his DL stint for a finger sprain on Tuesday, however that plan has certainly changed now. During his rehab start he tweaked a back muscle and was removed from the game. The Marlins will evaluate the 33-year-old outfielders injury and presumably push back his activation date. More should be known in the next few days. Analysis: Matt Selz
