Lost in the Denver Broncos' Super Bowl XLVIII debacle was Demaryius Thomas setting a Super Bowl record with 13 receptions.
As it turns out, Thomas managed the feat while playing through a painful injury.
Thomas suffered a separated shoulder early in the game, Vic Lombardi of KCNC-TV in Denver reported Tuesday. Thomas was knocked backward on a vicious hit from Kam Chancellor, but Lombardi was unable to confirm if that was the blow that caused the injury.
Thomas was feeling so much pain in his left shoulder Monday morning that he needed help rolling his bag to the luggage cart, according to the Denver Post.
The Red Sox are looking for an opportunity to give Brian Johnson his major league debut.
Johnson has a 2.92 ERA and 8.76 K/9 over 49 1/3 innings here in his first go-around with Triple-A Pawtucket. While the Red Sox would like to give him a taste of the majors, they'd obviously prefer to have a stronger rotation and not need to dip into their farm system as much as they have already. Steven Wright and Eduardo Rodriguez are getting a look right now. Should they fail and the struggles at the back end of the rotation continue, then perhaps we'll see Johnson at some point.
