GM Mike Rizzo says Stephen Strasburg (Elbow) will be 100 percent coming into spring.
It's a somewhat reassuring statement although Strasburg is going to be continuously monitored throughout the spring and well into the season before determining any sort of an innings cap. He's still a stud pitcher to own, but closer to mid-season he becomes a better trade chip as his season is always in jeopardy of being cut short.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Henry Owens will make his spring-training debut Friday.
While Owens' ERA jumped with his move to Triple-A last season, his K:BB spiked, leaving the Red Sox believing that he could be ready fro a jump to the majors soon. He'll debut this spring but will likely open the year at Triple-A to hone his craft. Should he dominate, the team could potentially bring him up for the second half. Analysis: Howard Bender
Hank Conger is dealing with a sore left wrist.
With the Astros saying that Evan Gattis will not play behind the plate at all this season, Conger steps in as the unequivocal back-up to Jason Castro. He's not really competing with Max Stassi who is seeing time in camp right now. Conger is day-to-day but should be just fine in a few days. Analysis: Howard Bender
