Fantasy Player Updates & News

Carolina Panthers impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy said there has not been any progress in contract talks with the team.

Undrafted OL La'el Collins' first visit will be with the Dallas Cowboys.

Collins, who has been investigated in a double murder case, has been targeted by numerous teams. He is a first round talent and the Cowboys will have the first crack at the offensive lineman. One team is going to be willing to sign the dominant offensive lineman, it's just a matter of when that time is going to be. Analysis: Colby Conway

Chris Carter went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI to go with a walk as the Astros fell to the Rangers, 11-3.

CC's last three hits have all been homers, too bad that stretches over eight games and it comes with 14 strikeouts. It has been feast or famine for the slugger, with more famine than what is needed for fantasy owners. He has a troublesome .257 OBP and really needs to just put the ball in play. Analysis: Rob Trayah

Shin-Soo Choo hit a two-run homer, going 1-for-5 with two RBI in the Rangers' win on Wednesday against the Astros.

Choo now has a hit in six straight games, with an extra-base hit in all of them. He has seen his average rise from .096 to .154 in that same stretch, but also has struck out in all of those games. It is still alarming to see that happen, as Choo has 25 strikeouts in 78 AB. Until he finds a way to trim that stat, Choo is a dangerous play with the chance of falling flat quickly. Analysis: Rob Trayah

Carlos Peguero was 3-for-4 with two home-runs, en route to three runs and three RBI in Wednesday's win against the Astros.

Peguero has struggled putting the ball play, but when he does, the power has shown. He has a .548 SLG with seven of his hits being of the extra-base variety. There's a revolving door in the outfield in Texas and Peguero continues to make his statement for a starting spot. Analysis: Rob Trayah

Colby Lewis went eight innings, giving up one run on six hits while striking out six as the Rangers routed the Astros.

Lewis has given up just three runs over his last three starts and been ultra-impressive in those starts. He struck out another six against the Astros, making that 29 in 38 innings while walking only nine. Lewis is now 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA with an impressive 1.08 WHIP. Analysis: Rob Trayah

Samuel Deduno was destroyed by the Rangers, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits and three walks while striking out only two in 4 2/3 innings on Wednesday.

To say Deduno showed up is a compliment to what happened in his start against the Rangers. He only went four innings in his first start against the Mariners and was the unfortunate soul that was left out for punishment. If you had any thoughts of picking up Deduno for your team, safely throw those in the trash and then light it on fire. Analysis: Rob Trayah

Astros purchased the contract of Preston Tucker from Triple-A Fresno

Tucker will be called up in lieu of the Astros placing George Springer on the disabled list. Tucker has been mashing in Triple-A Fresno, to the tune of a .320 average with 10 home runs. Tucker could see some time in the outfield, or the Astros could elect to let Evan Gattis play some left field. However, with Gattis' poor defensive play, it would be more than likely that Gattis will remain in the DH spot. Analysis: Colby Conway

Astros transferred Jed Lowrie to the 60-day disabled list.

This move seems to be strictly procedural, seeing as he was going to be out until after the All-Star break anyway. Lowrie is recovering from surgery in his thumb. Before hurting his thumb, Lowrie was hitting an even .300 with four homers and 10 RBI. Analysis: Colby Conway

Michael McKenry went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in game 2 of Wednesday’s twin bill with the Diamondbacks.

McKenry is a backup catcher for the Rockies so his playing time is sporadic. He has played in just four games since April 25th, which shows that he doesn't see the field often. He is hardly owned in fantasy formats and nothing at the moment should alter that trend. Analysis: Colby Conway

Astros placed George Springer (head) on the 7-day disabled list.

Springer crashed into the outfield wall on Tuesday and he has been evaluated for a concussion. Preston Tucker was called up on Wednesday, indicating that he will likely spend some time on the DL. While the batting average isn't where owners want it to be, it's hard to complain when he already has four homers and 10 stolen bases on the season. Analysis: Colby Conway
