Cardinals pitcher Jason Motte "feels pretty good" about his rehab, according to MLB Network Radio.
Motte would not talk about a timetable for his recovery, but indicated things were going well. He said his goal was to be a healthy contributor this year, and added that was his motivation for the season. Motte did not pitch in the majors last season due to undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Motte is miles removed from working the 9th inning, Trevor Rosenthal has that role at the moment and figures to keep it all year long unless he struggles. Motte will hope to return in a setup role for the Cardinals. ANALYST: Ray Flowers
ESPN sources say the Wizards are pushing hard to land David West.
The veteran power forward averaged 11.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists over 28.7 minutes per game last season for the Pacers. His veteran leadership is as much a part of his game as his work in the frontcourt and several teams are expected to be courting the 34-year old. If the Wizards are going to make a hard push, then an offer should come soon. Analysis: Howard Bender
Cole Hamels is unlikely to accept a trade to the Houston Astros.
Hamels has a limited no trade clause that allows him to block trades to 20 teams. Hamels would be the perfect target for the Astros as a true ace with team control beyond this season, but they will have to work elsewhere. Hamels will have a better chance at wins wherever he winds up, but a trade to the American League would obviously hurt his fantays value. Analysis: Steve Pimental
