The Rays signed RHP Grant Balfour to a 2-year $12 million deal.
The Orioles loss is the Rays gain. Balfour brings a strong arm and success to the pen in Tampa Bay.. Balfour has the skills to be one of the better closers in baseball, but he lacks the long term success in the role and the big name of so many others. Use that to your advantage and don't be afraid to roster Balfour at a lower cost than his efforts suggest should be spent. ANALYST: Ray Flowers
Lions placed CB Alex Carter on injured reserve.
It is now officially a lost season for the rookie. He was placed on short-term IR to begin the season, and is now done for the year. He has no stats, and while he says he is healthy, the fact remains that he is too far behind after missing the first nine weeks of the season with the IR/Designated to Return status to open the season. Redskins are working out CB AL Louis-Jean on Tuesday.
He played in nine games with the Bears in 2014, but was released this season out of training camp, having failed to impress the new coaching regime in Chicago. He has decent size at 6'1" for a cornerback, and also flashes good speed for coverage. At present, you do not need to put him on your IDP radar, unless he is signed to the 53-man roster instead of the practice squad. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
