Nationals are interested in signing Grant Balfour to bolster their bullpen.
The Nationals could certainly use another arm to solidify their pen walking into the spring, especially if there are concerns about Rafael Soriano's ability to close regularly and Drew Storen's ability to fill in when needed. It's a bit surprising to still see Balfour on the open market and a move to Washington would seriously damage any potential value he would have in fantasy leagues. ANALYST: Howard Bender
Alex Avila feels he's ready to return as the Tigers everyday catcher.
While Avila feels he's ready again for full-time duty, manager Brad Ausmus and the Tigers have been down this road with him all too often. He id as injury-prone as a guy can be and while this most-recent issue involved the knee, you can't help but remember the concussion issues that have plagued him over the last few seasons. One wrong foul tip and he could be done. He might see the lion's share of a platoon, but it seems doubtful that he would just be handed over the reins after such a lengthy absence and injury history. Yankees announce Nathan Eovaldi will start on Wednesday.
Eovaldi gets the ball on normal rest while Adam Warren will slide to the bullpen. After being acquired from the Marlins, Eovaldi has had a rough time in New York with a 1.543 WHIP and 4.81 ERA, both the highest in his career. His xFIP is almost a full run lower at 3.84 meaning he could see some good fortune in the near future. Analysis: Rob Trayah
