Fantasy Player Updates & News

J.J. Hickson grabbed a career-high 24 rebounds to go with 13 points, two assists, and one steal in the road win over the Warriors.

Rays manager Kevin Cash was hopeful outfielder Steven Souza would be able to return to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.

Souza sprained his wrist on Sunday, but he seems to be much better following an absence on Monday. The pain and swelling rapidly decreased and if he doesn't return Tuesday, he should be available shortly thereafter. Despite his absurd strikeout rate, he has been a nice source of power and steals on the season. Analysis: Colby Conway

Chris Johnson went 0 for 1 during a rehab assignment Monday.

The original return date for Johnson was Thursday, but team personnel believes that he could return before then. His 0-for-1 wasn't an ideal performance, but the team is more concerned that he shows no ill effects from this hand injury. He was hitting .279 before going on the DL. Analysis: Colby Conway

Stephen Curry has returned for the Warriors.

Curry passed all league mandated tests and he will look to help the Warriors come back in this one. Curry and the Warriors lead the series 3-0 and are looking for the sweep tonight in Houston. Analysis: Colby Conway

Mariners send Danny Farquhar to Triple-A Tacoma.

2015 hasn't been treating Farquhar well, prompting the team to send him to Triple-A to attempt to work out the kinks. He was 0-3 with a 6.46 ERA and 1.56 WHIP before being sent to Triple-A Tacoma. Analysis: Colby Conway

Giancarlo Stanton went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and one run scored against the Pirates on Monday.

Stanton has 13 home runs and 42 RBI on the season as he shows why he is an elite fantasy option. His low batting average should rise as the season progresses, but he is doing enough in other categories to be a constant producer for his owners. Continue starting Stanton in all formats. Analysis: Colby Conway

David Phelps allowed four earned runs on eight hits with two walks while striking out four in six innings against the Pirates on Monday.

Phelps was hurt by the long ball in this one, serving up round trippers to Francisco Cervelli and Pedro Alvarez. Phelps has secured a spot in the Marlins rotation but he isn't going to be a fantasy game changer by any stretch of the imagination. He has allowed nine earned runs on 22 hits in his last 17 innings pitched. He will make his next start on Sunday against the New York Mets. Analysis: Colby Conway

Austin Jackson has been reinstated from the disabled list. He'll rejoin the Mariners on Tuesday.

Owners should get Jackson active in their lineups. He is a threat to steal a base anytime he gets on and he should be able to be a steady producer atop the Seattle lineup. Get Jackson active. Analysis: Colby Conway

Francisco Cervelli went 2-for-2 with a home run, one walk, three RBI and one run scored against the Marlins on Monday.

Cervelli is hitting .316 on the year but the peripheral numbers haven't been particularly impressive from a fantasy standpoint. Tonight's home run was his first of the season, something Cervelli owners have been wanting for a long time. Some of Cervelli's fantasy value actually hinges on his teammates, because he will need their help to improve his counting stats. Analysis: Colby Conway

Pedro Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and one RBI on Monday against the Marlins.

Despite his .241 average, Alvarez has been a solid contributor to many fantasy teams. He has nine homers and 21 RBI on the season as he is now an everyday player for the Pittsburgh Pirates. There was some platoon talk at first base in Pittsburgh early on, but Alvarez has shown that his bat needs to be in the lineup on a daily basis. Analysis: Colby Conway

Mark Melancon earned his 11th save by pitching a clean ninth inning on Monday against the Marlins.

The struggles of the Pirates have not only hurt Melancon's save chances, but owners who drafted him with the hopes of being a top tier closer. However, he is overcome some early season struggles and his job as the Pittsburgh closer is safe for the time being. Continue running Melancon out there as the Pirates should be getting hot soon. Analysis: Colby Conway

Charlie Morton allowed two earned runs on eight hits while striking out three in seven strong innings against the Marlins on Monday.

Of the 21 outs Morton recorded in this outing, 16 were of the ground ball variety. It was impressive to see Morton not issue one walk in his first start of the season following offseason hip surgery. Morton can be a valuable fantasy asset for fantasy owners who are in need of pitching. He is owned in just four-percent of ESPN leagues and owners should be chomping at the bit to snatch him up. His next start will come on Saturday against the San Diego Padres. Analysis: Colby Conway

Justin Smoak went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and one run scored on Monday against the White Sox.

Smoak has received a few starts before going to the bench of late. While his average is rather low, he does have three home runs and 11 RBI so far on the season. His main contributions are going to be via the long ball, but owners will have to live with the draining average if he is in your lineup. Analysis: Colby Conway

Josh Donaldson went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, three runs scored and one RBI against the White Sox on Monday.

Donaldson now has 10 home runs and 29 RBI on the year, showing why he is one of the top options at the hot corner. He is producing in all departments and he should never leave your starting lineup if you are lucky enough to own the hot-hitting third baseman. Analysis: Colby Conway

Drew Hutchison allowed just four hits while striking out eight in a complete game shutout on Monday against the White Sox.

Hutchison fired 70 of his 96 pitches for strikes in arguably his best start of the season. He is pitching well of late and his rough start seems to be a thing of the past for Toronto's ace. Fantasy owners should be excited to see that his next start will be against the light-hitting Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Make sure you have Hutchison starting for that one. Analysis: Colby Conway

Avisail Garcia was 1-for-1 with a single before leaving Monday’s game against the Blue Jays with right knee inflammation.

This knee injury has bothered Garcia so far in 2015. He missed two games earlier in the week because of inflammation but it flared back up after playing in two games. He should be considered day-to-day at the moment and J.B. Shuck should receive the majority of time in Garcia's absence. Analysis: Colby Conway
