Updated: The New York Yankees get $27.5 million in relief from the A-Rod suspension, which gives them a much better chance of getting under the $189 million luxury tax threshold.
Or a much better chance of winning the Tanaka sweepstakes of which they are still very much a part. Given the Yankees free agent spending this winter and their unabashed desire to sign the 25-year old Japanese phenom, coming in under the luxury tax threshold seems to be the least of their concerns right now.ANALYST: Howard Bender
Lions will not use the franchise tag on DT Ndamukong Suh.
There has been a lot of back-and-forth internally as to whether the Lions want to bring Suh back and obviously cost is a major issue as he will command quite the hefty salary on the open market. But they won't use the franchise tag here as they know the bitterness it will cause between player and team. Look for the Lions to make the defensive lineman a competitive offer but they won't break the bank to keep him. Analysis: Howard Bender
